Could be better
we have this car for 1 year and we have to invest a lot of money in it because the previous owner did not care about it at all.

City car
Decent car for short distances, not very reliable during long trips i've found. Only had a few mechanical problems within 200k, nothing too major.

I can move larger items easier since I have a station wagon.
The only problems I've had with the car is I needed a new ignition switch and I had to replace the engine mount. Everything else done on the car was regular maintenance. I helped my son move with my car since I have a station wagon. I purchased this car as a demo car in November 2003.

good car very useful \ Auto
Own the car since new, replaced tires, brake, idle air control valve at 100k, battery 120km, alternator \struts 160k, all the motor mounts at 170km. The car has been reliable , comfortable and get 35 mpg typically with the highest mpg of 43mpg. Heated seats are really nice and car handles really well and is fun to drive

Meh
Good on gas and that's about it. Very plain interior. Hard to believe that 2003 was so behind the times. There's nothing fancy about this car at all.

No major issues except an exhaust leak at nearly 200,000km. Alright car if fuel economy is the ONLY thing you're after.

More than I expected
I bought the car with 300,000 kms on it. The options on the car were awesome. The leather interior is very nice, and although not the softest leather I've seen in a car, it holds up like nothing else. I had 2 kids in mine, with spills, dirty shoes, and booster seats, and the leather cleans up like new, with no rips tears or cracks. The car now has 323,000kms, and it's still going. I have done very little to it, not even an oil change, and it works perfectly. It is still only using about 9L of fuel for every 100 kms, which is what it was rated for brand new.

not the car of my dreams
I was in need of a car, sence my honda accord rotted out,I,v owned this ford fucus wagon for eight monthes now,I,v never liked ford, but after owning this wagon,I think there made pretty good for a cheap car,I only payed 1800 for it,and it never let me down yet,it has a fuid drive transmission in it,and people say they blow all the time, but i,v had good luck with it,but I don,t drive it hard,I don,t think it would hold up if I drove it hard,I figure if I drive it right,it will last me for a very long time, the factory cd player is the best I,v ever heard for being stock, blows delco players away lol.I don,t like the back tires bowed out,it makes the car look really cheap, they need to put heavyer springs in there focuses,I see most focuses on the road with bowed tires lol.I would give the car a good over all rateing, and worth buying

Inexpensive car can be good for the budget driver
Purchased a 2003 Ford Focus SE Wagon in 2009, with about 120,000 km on board.
Blow motor fan was noisy and in about 6 months siezed so it had to be replaced. About once a year, or max every 2 years some suspension work was required on the front (linked kit stabilizer, etc).
Ignition cylinder locked (could not turn the key in) on a chilly afternoon, so it had to be replaced as well.
Although properly sprayed in the summer with oil in the door panels and under body rust started to show on the door panels and fenders, through the paint, by the time I sold the car in 2012, so some work was required to fix that.
With 4 people in the car you need lots of time to speed up and merge when entering on a highway, not fun.
So that is for the repairs, now the good part is that I see this car as an utility and in that regard has been great for me, I purchased the car for about 5,000 CAD, I moved lots of construction materials with it over the years and that includes large pieces of furniture without any issues. We are talking lumber (more than 10 ft fits inside the car, full boards of MDF or other wood panels tied on top of the car (I had the railing system), I even managed to get a new fridge fully inside the car and close the rear door. Just perfect for this type of work, I loved it.
I also managed decent fuel economy in the summer season, with a manual transmission and being easy on the gas pedal , as low as 8.5L/100km in town.
If you are looking for a car that is going to make you purr with satisfaction this ain't it, if on the other hand you are looking for a car that is cheap to maintain but you will have to replace some parts once or twice a year and in exchange throw just about everything you can at it in terms of loads than this is a car that will deliver.

Nice little car
Excellent driving car, drives like a german make. Has a much more solid feel than the Japanese makes and is worlds better than the Korean cars like Hyundai/Kia. The dash design is very odd with a strange array of shapes, textures, and colours, Thats my only real complaint. Nice feeling transmission (mine is a 5 speed) peppy engine. Car has lots of features for the $$, a great value. Been a great car for us and very dependable!

Fast but guzzles gas
Due to having a large engine packed into a very small space, the labor costs of repairs are far too high.

I can't wait at the end of the day to get in my car
I never had a problem with it and the comfort is incredible !
It's a red beautiful car that is cheap on gas and clean on the outside and outside . It still looks like it's brand new, meaning it was well made. I love my car and never been happier with my experience, the space i have in it it's unbelieveble !

Awesome Little Car
I leased two Focuses in row - I liked the first one, a 2001, so much I didn't even hesitate when my lease was up. I just called my dealer and told him to pick me one out in blue. This was a great little car, surprisingly roomy (lots of headspace) and a lot of pickup for a 4 cyl. Handles great in the snow ... I had a few near misses that could have ended badly if it had fishtailed. It does drift a bit in high wind since it's light and sits fairly high. Overall a great car.
