Toyota Gives Crown Signia Power Wagon Vibes with GT-S Performance Concept at SEMA
Power wagons are having a moment. From the venerable Audi RS 6 to the staggering BMW M5 Touring, wagons with performance parts lighting up tires and the sales charts, and Toyota wants to see if it can get in on the fun with the Crown Signia.
Sitting somewhere between a traditional wagon and a crossover, the long-roof Toyota has been made sportier with the Crown Signia GT-S Performance Concept that will be one of the brand’s stars at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.
Built by the Toyota Motorsports Garage, this new one-off has been fitted with widebody fenders, reshaped headlight surrounds with red accents, a revised rear end with trapezoidal exhaust tips, and an aero package to give it a sportier posture.
Meanwhile, it has been equipped with a fully custom MCS coilover kit that lowers it by nearly 127 mm (5 inches). Specially built 21-inch HRE wheels are wrapped in 295-mm-wide tires and hide big brake calipers that were borrowed from the Lexus RX 500h F Sport.
Although it is certainly sporty, the Crown Signia GT-S Performance Concept isn’t as over-the-top as some of the other concepts at the SEMA Show. That’s because Toyota was trying to balance refinement and performance with this model.
While there is no expectation that this concept previews a production vehicle, Toyota may be testing the waters with it to see if the public is interested in a sporty version of the Crown Signia. If so, the model may someday get the same GR Sport treatment as the new RAV4. While that wouldn’t put it in the same league as the German power wagons listed above, it may still add some welcome fun to the model’s lineup.
