Toyota Snowhunter Concepts Imagine Off-Roading in a Winter Wonderland
Toyota is taking to the desert to show off a handful of arctic-inspired concepts, with its track-sporting Snowhunters looking like they’re ready to explore the great white north.
Set for their first public appearance at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, the Snowhunter treatment has been applied to the brand’s most capable products: the 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia SUVs; and the Tacoma and Tundra pickups. And while the tracks they ride on are most certainly not something Toyota would ever offer, the overarching theme could easily come to be, depending on the public’s response.
After all, the Snowhunter name is strikingly similar to the Trailhunter one that’s already been applied to the 4Runner and Tacoma, and more recently to the full-size Sequoia and Tundra, with overland-ready equipment right from the factory. The Snowhunter concepts simply build on that same enhanced functionality through existing and newly imagined features and accessories.
Among them is the so-called TrailLift Pro rack on the Tundra Snowhunter concept, which was drawn up at Toyota’s research and design facility in Ann Arbor, Mich. The accessory includes an articulating top rack that can be lowered for easier loading and unloading, according to Toyota. It also features an integrated off-road lightbar, while the tapered shape of the Tundra’s bed cap has side-mounted storage pods complete with MOLLE panels to securely move gear.
Crucially, each of the Snowhunter concepts includes suspension lifts created through Toyota’s own accessories catalogue, which means these fantastical off-roaders are at least partially rooted in reality. As for the rock sliders, skid plates, roof racks, and other add-ons — they’re already available, too. Rounding out the upgrades are unique Snowhunter badges, as well as bespoke camouflage that Toyota’s team designed specifically for this quintet of concepts.
