Mazda CX-70 Soldiers on in Canada with Several Refinements
Although rumours a swirling south of the border suggesting that the CX-70 will be discontinued there, in Canada, the two-row version of Mazda’s midsize SUV will soldier on into 2027. Better still, the model has been updated for extra comfort and refinement.
For 2027, the plug-in hybrid Mazda CX-70 GS-SC will be the most affordable version of the SUV, and will start at $48,999 (before fees and taxes), the exact same amount as last year. While that’s not a savings, it is a welcome reversal of expectations.
Despite the price, the CX-70 has received some important improvement for the coming model year. A revised rear suspension crossmember is designed improve passenger comfort as well as the vehicle’s composure over rough pavement. Rear seat alert will also be standard across the lineup for 2027 and the availability of Alexa Built-in has been expanding to more trims.
Plug-in hybrid versions, specifically, get an improved electric traction motor with additional insulation to contribute to quieter operation. Two new exterior paint colours have also been added across the lineup, they are Navy Blue Mica and Aero Grey Metallic.
Otherwise, powertrain options remain the same for the upcoming model year, with buyers offered either a plug-in hybrid option (which combines a 2.5L, four-cylinder engine coupled to a 68-kW electric motor that combine to make 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque) or a turbocharged 3.3L inline-six that makes 340 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The most affordable version of the non-plug-in CX-70, the GS-L trim, rings in at $50,250, an increase of $500 over the same model last year.
