Lexus NX vs. RX: Size, Hybrid Options, Price and Which SUV Fits You

Shopping for a Lexus SUV and stuck on NX vs. RX? The Lexus NX is the compact luxury SUV: it costs less, holds as much cargo with the seats folded and burns less fuel as a hybrid. The Lexus RX is the midsize luxury SUV: it's longer, more spacious behind the rear seats, tows more and adds the 367-hp RX 500h. Both seat five and offer gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid power.
Key Takeaways
- Lexus Canada's 2026 pricing starts the NX at $54,830 MSRP (August 2025) and the RX at $60,635 (November 2025), a gap of $5,805.
- The RX is 230 mm longer and offers 838 L of cargo space behind the rear seats, about 30 per cent more than the NX's 643 L.
- Natural Resources Canada rates the 2026 NX 350h at 6.0 L/100 km combined and the RX 350h at 6.5; both burn premium fuel.
- The RX tows up to 1,585 kg, about 74 per cent more than the NX's 910 kg.
- Lexus Canada says the 2027 NX goes hybrid and plug-in hybrid only, with AWD on every model.
Canadian Pricing: What the Lexus NX and Lexus RX Cost
The Lexus NX vs. Lexus RX price gap holds at every step, even with shared powertrains. The NX is the more affordable pick.
Starting MSRP by Powertrain
| 2026 model, entry grade | Lexus NX MSRP | Lexus RX MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Gas (NX 350 / RX 350 Premium) | $54,830 | $60,635 |
| Hybrid (NX 350h / RX 350h Premium) | $57,675 | $63,295 |
| Plug-in hybrid (NX 450h+ / RX 450h+ Ultra Premium) | $59,990 | $78,495 |
| Performance hybrid (RX 500h F Sport Performance 2) | Not offered | $82,864 |
These are Lexus Canada's 2026 starting MSRPs from its NX release of Aug. 7, 2025, and RX release of Nov. 6, 2025. Watch the PHEV gap: at launch in November 2025, the 2026 RX 450h+ started $18,505 above the 2026 NX 450h+.
The entry-level NX 350 Premium is the cheapest way in. At the top, the 2026 RX 500h F Sport Black Line reached $89,454 MSRP when priced in November 2025.
Trims and Features: Size, Dimensions and Performance
These two luxury SUVs share the same package names: Premium, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, Executive and F Sport. Size is where they split.
Dimensions and Cargo Space
Lexus Canada lists the 2026 RX at 4,890 mm long on a 2,850-mm wheelbase, against 4,660 mm and 2,690 mm for the NX. The RX's wheelbase is 160 mm longer.
Behind the rear seats, the RX's cargo area holds 838 L, about 30 per cent more than the NX's 643 L. Fold the seats, though, and the compact NX wins on maximum cargo capacity by a whisker: 1,328 L against 1,308 L. Both are two-row, five-seat SUVs, so child seats fit in either interior.
Gas, Hybrid or Plug-In Hybrid Powertrains
Every 2026 NX and RX sold in Canada has all-wheel drive, and Lexus Canada's 2026 NX price list starts with the NX 350.
- NX 350 and RX 350: a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder with 275 horsepower, 317 lb-ft of torque and an eight-speed automatic.
- NX 350h and RX 350h: a 2.5L four-cylinder with electric motors and an eCVT, rated at 240 hp in the NX and 246 hp in the RX.
- NX 450h+ and RX 450h+: PHEV models rated at 304 hp, with 60 km and 61 km of NRCan-rated all-electric range.
- RX 500h: the flagship, pairing a turbocharged 2.4L engine with a high-output electric motor for 367 hp and 406 lb-ft.

Touchscreen, Infotainment and Luxury Features
Both SUVs run the Lexus Interface infotainment system and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 driver-assistance technology. The 2026 NX has standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an available 14-inch touchscreen and an available Advanced Park parking assist with panoramic view monitor cameras. The RX starts with a 9.8-inch touchscreen and offers a 14-inch display. Both offer a head-up display and Mark Levinson audio on upper trims; the NX tops out at 17 speakers, the RX at 21.

Incentives and Fees: Freight, PDI and the Federal EV Incentive
The MSRP is never the cheque you write. Lexus Canada's 2026 estimated vehicle price, published in August 2025 for the NX and November 2025 for the RX, adds $3,400 to each starting MSRP. That covers freight and PDI, the air-conditioning charge and maximum dealer and other fees, before taxes and registration.
Does a Plug-In NX or RX Qualify?
As of Oct. 16, 2026, Transport Canada's Electric Vehicle Affordability Program takes up to $2,500 off a new plug-in hybrid bought or leased in 2026, dropping to $2,000 in 2027.
Here's the catch. Under the federal program, a vehicle built outside Canada must land at a final transaction value of $50,000 or less, while a Canadian-built one has no cap. Lexus Canada's list of models built by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada leaves out both plug-ins. They're imported and start above the cap at their 2026 launch MSRPs, so neither 2026 plug-in qualifies at any trim.

Insurance and Running Costs: Fuel Consumption and Coverage
Fuel and insurance separate these Lexus SUVs most.
NRCan Fuel Consumption in L/100 km
Natural Resources Canada's 2026 fuel economy ratings give the hybrids a clear edge. Skip U.S. EPA mpg figures; they aren't Canadian ratings.
| 2026 model (AWD) | NRCan combined |
|---|---|
| NX 350h | 6.0 L/100 km |
| RX 350h | 6.5 L/100 km |
| RX 500h | 8.6 L/100 km |
| NX 350 | 9.8 L/100 km |
| RX 350 | 9.9 L/100 km |
| NX 450h+ / RX 450h+ | 2.8 Le/100 km on electricity; 6.9 / 6.7 L/100 km on gas |
NRCan lists premium gasoline for every NX and RX powertrain. Over 20,000 km a year, the NX 350h uses about 760 L less fuel than the NX 350.

Warranty and Insurance
Lexus Canada gives the NX and RX the same warranty: four years or 80,000 km comprehensive, six years or 110,000 km powertrain, eight years or 160,000 km for hybrid components and 10 years or 240,000 km for the hybrid battery.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada says a vehicle's make, model, year, value and repair costs all affect premiums. Its How Cars Measure Up tool compares claims by model and year, so get quotes on both.

Buyer Considerations: Which Lexus SUV Fits You
The Lexus NX versus RX choice usually comes down to three questions:
- Will adults ride in the back seat every week?
- Do you need to tow more than 910 kg?
- Is rear-seat comfort worth the RX's higher price?
Choose the NX If...
Pick the NX if you want the lower price, a smaller footprint for city parking and the most fuel-efficient hybrid. It's a practical family SUV for parents of young kids, and our 2024 Lexus NX review found plenty to like. Cross-shop the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Acura RDX.
Choose the RX If...
Pick the RX if adults ride in the back, you tow a small trailer or you want the RX 500h. Our 2024 Lexus RX 350 review explains why it's the more comfortable highway cruiser. Cross-shop the BMW X5 and Audi Q7. Need three-row seating? Neither has it, so read our 2026 Lexus TX review. AWD helps in Canadian winters on either one, but budget for winter tires.
