10 Fastest Electric Cars You Can Buy in Canada in 2026

What is the fastest electric car you can buy in Canada?

What is the fastest electric car you can buy in Canada? Going by the 0-100 km/h times that manufacturers publish for Canada, it's the Lucid Air Sapphire, at about 2.0 seconds. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package follows at 2.2 seconds, then the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric and the Rivian R1T Quad. Only 2 of the 10, the Tesla Model 3 Performance and the Cadillac Lyriq-V, are listed below $100,000.

Key Takeaways

  • Lucid Canada rates the Air Sapphire at about 2.0 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, and Porsche Canada rates the 2027 Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package at 2.2 seconds with Launch Control.
  • In all, 7 of our 10 picks reach 100 km/h, or 96 km/h for the GM models, in under 3 seconds.
  • Speed costs energy: NRCan rates the 2026 Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package at 25.9 kWh/100 km, about 15 per cent more than the 22.5 it gives the 2026 Taycan Turbo on 21-inch Aero wheels.
  • Among the 10, 7 have a listed Canadian price above $100,000, the threshold for the federal luxury tax on vehicles.

How We Selected the Fastest Electric Cars in Canada

We ranked fast electric cars by the manufacturer-stated 0-100 km/h time on each brand's Canadian website, read on Oct. 27, 2026. Every electric vehicle had to be offered in the brand's Canadian online configurator when we checked.

Each model line gets one entry, as its quickest version, so the Taycan appears once. Rivian's R1T pickup and R1S SUV share an entry because both use the same 1,025 hp Quad setup.

Coming-soon models don't count (see the FAQ). Neither do models the configurator doesn't offer yet, such as the Lotus Eletre Carbon. We couldn't confirm that Audi Canada's and Tesla Canada's configurators offer the Audi RS e-tron GT performance and the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, so they're left out. The Tesla Model S Plaid isn't included because Tesla's Q2 2026 update says it has decommissioned its Model S and Model X production lines. GMC and Cadillac quote 0-96 km/h, a slightly shorter sprint. All are manufacturer claims, not independent testing.

The Luxury Tax on Fast EVs

The Canada Revenue Agency's notice on subject vehicles applies the federal luxury tax to vehicles priced above $100,000 with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,856 kg or less, with no exclusion for electric models. The tax stopped applying to aircraft and vessels on Nov. 5, 2025, a change Bill C-15 made law when it received royal assent on March 26, 2026. It still applies to cars.

Strengths and Trade-Offs: Acceleration, Torque and Speed vs. Range

Electric motors deliver instant torque from a standstill, which is why fast EVs have such brutal acceleration off the line. The trade-offs come later.

Energy use is one. Among the Taycans NRCan rates for 2026, the Turbo GT with Weissach Package uses 25.9 kWh/100 km and is rated for 433 km. The Taycan Turbo on 21-inch Aero wheels uses 22.5 and is rated for 510 km, about 18 per cent more range.

Winter is another. CAA's winter road test measured big real-world range losses in the cold, and a fast EV on summer rubber needs a set of four winter tires (see the FAQ).

All that launch power is only useful if the tires can put it down.

Who Each Option Suits

  • Family buyers who want an SUV: the Cayenne Turbo Electric, the Rivian R1S Quad or the Macan Turbo Electric.
  • Pickup buyers: the Rivian R1T Quad or the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.
  • Grand touring: the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore or the Lotus Emeya R.
  • Most affordable picks, under $100,000 before sales tax: the Tesla Model 3 Performance or the Cadillac Lyriq-V.
  • Performance EVs that just missed the cut: the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N (3.4 seconds; here's our IONIQ 5 N review), the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally (3.6) or the BMW i4 M60 (3.7).

How to Choose a Fast EV in Canada

A high-performance electric car is more than one line on a spec sheet.

Five Checks Before You Buy a Performance EV

  1. Compare like with like: 0-96 km/h and 0-100 km/h times aren't the same test.
  2. Look up the NRCan range and energy use for the exact trim and wheel size.
  3. Ask what the price includes: freight and PDI, dealer fees and the luxury tax can add thousands.
  4. Plan for winter range and winter tires. Here's how electric vehicles cope with Canadian winters.
  5. Check home charging before you sign.
