Best AWD Minivans in Canada for 2026: Space, Winter Traction and Value

The Sienna AWD is the value and efficiency pick, rated at 6.8 L/100 km combined by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The Pacifica AWD has the most flexible interior, with Stow ’n Go seats, but it burns far more fuel and costs more. The Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival are front-wheel drive only.

How We Selected: Every All-Wheel Drive Minivan Sold in Canada
This list isn’t based on a new test. It’s built from public, checkable data, with sources checked Oct. 19, 2026.
What Counts as an AWD Minivan Here
We started with NRCan’s 2026 ratings. Its minivan class lists eight gas and hybrid ratings, and only two are for AWD models. Prices come from Toyota Canada’s 2026 Sienna pricing and from Chrysler Canada’s site and Stellantis Canada’s pricing releases.
We also used the AutoTrader Awards, voted on by more than 20 AutoTrader experts. NRCan has rated AWD versions of both the Sienna and the Pacifica since 2020; see our jurors’ earlier minivan finalists.
AWD vs 4WD Minivan: Why No Van Is Rated 4WD
NRCan rates no 4WD minivan for 2026. Its fuel consumption guide defines 4WD as a vehicle designed to run with either two or four wheels powered, and AWD as one designed to run with all wheels powered. Here’s more on how AWD, 4WD and 4x4 differ.
Toyota says the Sienna’s electronic on-demand AWD sends all torque to the front wheels at a steady speed and up to 80 per cent to the rear on take-off and slippery surfaces. Stellantis says the 2027 Pacifica can send up to 100 per cent of engine torque to the rear wheels and can disconnect its rear drive module to save fuel.

Two are on sale for 2026. The third is a 2025 EV.
Toyota Sienna AWD: The Efficient Hybrid Pick
The Toyota Sienna won the 2026 Best Minivan award, its third straight win. Every Sienna is a hybrid. A 2.5L four-cylinder and electric motors make 245 horsepower. AWD is offered on the LE, XSE, XSE Technology, Limited and Platinum trims, but not the XLE.
The same formula took the 2025 Best Minivan title: AWD for $1,840 on the 2025 LE (Toyota Canada, Nov. 25, 2024) with almost no extra fuel use. Our 2026 Toyota Sienna review has the full test. Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring. There’s also an Advanced Rear Seat Reminder that can detect people in the second and third rows.
Chrysler Pacifica AWD: The Most Space and Stow ’n Go Seats
The Chrysler Pacifica, built in Windsor, Ont., pairs a 3.6L V6 (287 hp) with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Its Stow ’n Go seats fold flat into the floor; the Chrysler Grand Caravan has Stow ’n Go too. As of Oct. 19, 2026, AWD costs $5,000 on the 2026 Select and Limited, while the Pinnacle comes only with AWD in Canada.
Read our 2026 Chrysler Pacifica AWD review for the full test. Power sliding doors and heated front seats are standard. NRCan’s 2026 plug-in hybrid data lists a Pacifica Hybrid, but no AWD version.
Volkswagen ID. Buzz 4Motion: The Electric Wildcard
The ID. Buzz 4Motion makes 335 hp with AWD, and VW Canada lists it with six seats, including two second-row captain’s chairs. NRCan’s newest rating, for the 2025 ID. Buzz Pro 4MOTION, is 372 km of range; NRCan lists no 2026 ID. Buzz. VW Canada lists 86 kWh of usable battery; read our 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz review for the full test.

Price and Efficiency Comparison: NRCan Ratings and Cargo Space
| Model | 2026 AWD trims | Price with freight* | NRCan combined (city/hwy) | Cargo: behind 3rd row / max |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Sienna AWD | LE, XSE, XSE Technology, Limited, Platinum | 2026: $54,868 to $74,826 as of Nov. 25, 2025 | 6.8 L/100 km (6.8/6.7) | 949 L / 2,860 L |
| Chrysler Pacifica AWD | Select, Limited, Pinnacle | 2026: $57,195 to $72,695 as of Oct. 19, 2026, after cash discounts | 12.0 L/100 km (14.1/9.4) | 915 L / 3,979 L |
| VW ID. Buzz 4Motion (2025) | 1st Edition 4MOTION | Not listed on vw.ca | 2.9 Le/100 km, 372 km range | Not listed / 4,120 L |
*Sienna: Toyota Canada’s 2026 estimated vehicle price as of Nov. 25, 2025, with freight, PDI, the A/C charge and maximum dealer fees. Pacifica: Chrysler Canada’s 2026 starting price as of Oct. 19, 2026, with freight and the federal A/C charge, less included cash discounts of $5,000 (Select AWD) to $7,500 (Pinnacle AWD). Before taxes.
Fuel Efficiency: Hybrid AWD vs V6 AWD
The fuel gap is huge. At the 20,000 km a year NRCan uses for its annual fuel cost estimates, the Sienna AWD’s rating works out to about 1,360 L of fuel, against 2,400 L for the Pacifica AWD. That’s consumption, not cost; your pump price decides the dollars.
What the Price Gap Buys: Trims and Options
The 2026 Sienna LE AWD seats eight passengers for a starting price of $51,210 MSRP, before options, in Toyota Canada’s Nov. 25, 2025 pricing. Prices move, though: as of Oct. 19, 2026, Chrysler Canada’s site lists the 2026 Select AWD from $57,195 with freight and a $5,000 cash discount. For 2027, Stellantis Canada cut the Pinnacle AWD by $7,200 to $72,995 with destination, in pricing released April 21, 2026; see our 2027 Chrysler Pacifica first drive.
Strengths and Trade-Offs: Sienna vs Pacifica
Neither van is perfect.
Sienna: Efficiency, Waitlists and Third-Row Seating
- Strength: 6.8 L/100 km with AWD, and a third row adults can use.
- Strength: 949 L behind the third row, about 4 per cent more than the Pacifica’s 915 L.
- Trade-off: Toyota Canada warns that global supply issues are causing new-vehicle delivery delays.
- Trade-off: its 2,860 L maximum trails the Pacifica’s 3,979 L.
Pacifica: Interior Space, Towing Capacity and Thirst
The Pacifica is the hauler, with flexible seating: Stow ’n Go folds the seats flat into the floor, and Chrysler rates its towing capacity at up to 1,633 kg. The bill comes at the pump: 14.1 L/100 km in the city.
Who Each Option Suits: Families, Budgets and Winters
Match the van to how and where you drive.
The Sienna Fits Most Families; the Pacifica Fits Big Loads
Pick the Sienna AWD if you drive a lot, face long winters and want the lowest fuel bill. Pick the Pacifica AWD if you haul sports gear, furniture or a trailer, or can’t wait for a Sienna.
Front-wheel drive works for many city drivers. The Honda Odyssey (10.6 L/100 km) and Kia Carnival (11.3; the Carnival Hybrid is 7.2) are FWD only, as is the Canada-only Grand Caravan, so pair them with winter tires.
Used AWD Minivans: What to Check
NRCan lists Sienna AWD ratings for every model year since 2015, and Pacifica AWD ratings since 2020. Confirm the trim name and the NRCan rating before you buy.

How to Choose an AWD Minivan for Canadian Winters
Start with your winter.
Winter Tires Matter More Than the Drivetrain
Transport Canada recommends winter tires on all wheels in cold, snowy or icy conditions. Here’s why you still need winter tires even with AWD. Their softer compound stays pliable below about 7°C.
In Quebec, it’s the law: Quebec’s winter tire requirement covers motor vehicles registered in the province, with some exceptions such as trailers, from Dec. 1 to March 15, with a $200 to $300 fine.
Test the Seats, Cargo and Car Seats
- Install your own car seats in the second and third rows.
- Fold every row and load a stroller or hockey bag.
- Check the NRCan figures on the fuel consumption ratings search tool.
- Price the AWD trim you want, not the base model.
