2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Trim: TDI Highline
by sttr on 02-02-2013
Economy, performance, comfort
The 2009 Jetta is the first year with the 2.0 litre clean Diesel, and represents one of only 2 years where the diesel was available before the car was de-contented in 2011. The Jetta TDI is a premium small car that is economical to own and operate, with reasonably-priced maintenance. The trunk is famously huge for the size of the car, and it is actually considered to be a compact, not a sub-compact, by the EPA.
These cars do everything well, and offer sporty handling, supportive seats, superior fuel economy in an attractive and reliable package.

Great mid size vehicle
Great car all around with the exception of the transmission. There is no dip stick to inspect quantity or quality, and the transmission is prone to act up after 150km.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Trim: 2.5
by Rick_D on 01-30-2013
Solid and reliable
This car dives out of its class. The 2006 - 2010 Jetta's are premium cars at a less than premium price. The ride quality rivals 3 series and A4's. It is reliable as long as it is maintained properly. Oil changes every 8000 km are a must and only synthetic oil is required. The only transmission for this car is the manual. It gives the 2.5 5 cylinder some pep and the car feels lively on the road. The automatic makes the car feel anemic and is so concerned about up shifting to save gas that you are constantly on it to accelerate. Best interior in the business however some finishes do wear off prematurely. Overall great car with the manual transmission and ok cruiser with the automatic.

2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Trim: 5-cyl 2.5L Highline
by Bluemeansgo on 01-26-2013
Fashionable, with attention to detail.
The attention to detail that VW has put into this car is fantastic. Controls are easy and within reach. The quality of materials is high and there are little things that make driving a joy. The Trip computer is fantastic, with options to see what is currently playing on the radio and the ability to completely customize a wide variety of options like how your mirrors work, how the doors lock and what unit you want your fuel economy to be in. The little VW symbol in headlights is a nice touch.

It seems that VW has put thought into the small aspects of design. You don't just drive a VW, you experience it.

The 5-cylinder 2.5L engine has the economy of a 4-cylinder engine with the power of a 6-cylinder. Although the ultimate VW, in my opinion, is the TDI engine, this engine is responsive and allows you to easily pass other cars.

2004 Volkswagen Jetta

The Perfect Commuter Vehicle
The 2004 TDI Jetta has been a perfect vehicle and is the perfect vehicle for a commuter. The combination of a manual transmission, turbo diesel engine and amazing handling makes the car fun to drive, while maintaining fuel efficiency and comfort. It feels and is well made and solid, giving an extra feeling of safety for such a small car. From personal experience, the 2004s cannot be compared to the new Jetta - they do not make them like they use to. The 2004 is smaller but maintains the spacious feeling inside and truly fills the high quality standard associated with German engineered vehicles. The biggest and one of the only negatives is sub zero driving - as a diesel it requires more time to warm up in negative temperatures before it should be driven than gasoline engines do. This does not affect driving performance, it only requires the car be started a few minutes before leaving on cold mornings if left outside.

2005 Volkswagen Jetta

As reliable and efficient as the German's can make a car
Have owned my 2005 Jetta for about 4 years now. Turned it into a summer car for myself, and it has been a joy to drive. I find the seats very comfortable to sit in for long drives (5+ hours)

The car is capable in power. It has reasonable get-up-and-go with the torque the diesel engine provides but it will never WOW you with it's speed. The car isn't built for that. That being said, these cars can be chipped for reasonable price, and that will improve power and torque considerably.

Fuel economy is fantastic. I never saw below 42 MPG (imp) when it was chipped, and my best fuel tank saw over 53 MPG (imp).

Interior fit and finish is good, and most surfaces one must rest on was touched with leather. Gauges were illuminated in a soft blue, which I hated at first (stylistically) but instantly loved on my first road trip. The car is easy on the eyes when you're driving in the dark.

Exterior styling is quintessential Jetta. If you like it, you like it. I personally favor the Jetta IV styling (ending in 2005.5) over the 2006, but that's just me. The sharp, uprightness for the front left the nose of the car badly exposed to rock chips and road damage from regular driving, robbing this car of 5 stars on the exterior.

It's the perfect commuter card
I purchased a Volkswagen Jetta a year ago, and I love the car. I used commute 1 hour to the city every day, and having the Jetta really made the time fly by. It gets great fuel economy and is comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. It also have lots of space inside and looks great! I would defiantly recommend purchasing a Volkswagen Jetta

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Excellent Jetta
I bought the Jetta brand new and for the last 10 years it has been a very reliable car that has been inexpensive to drive and other than some large typical repairs at about 180,000km it has cost very little to mainain. It is really nice to drive - very solid and feels safe. My Jetta didn't have the turbo engine and although it had lots of speed it didn't have the pick up that the Turbo does. I had to replace many bulbs over the 10 years - brake lights, running lights, head lights etc. This was an on-going issue but in reality it was very cheap to buy new bulbs and wasn't really a big deal. Overall - I would hight recommend this vehicle.

TDI is the way to go
The Jetta TDI has the combined benefit of an automatic engine with the efficient, low-cost fuel economy of a diesel engine. Although the transmission is slightly 'stiff' in regards to exceleration BUT it makes up for it with a sturdiness and reliability. Due to my experiences with this car, I will definitely be inclined to look at other diesel engine cars for my next purchase.

VW Jetta - Flawed but Reliable!
In the beginning I really did not like the styling of Jetta. It seemed right out of coloring books for kids. Straight lines and non-organic exterior were really off putting. But once you are behind the wheel, the things change. The car handles very well for what I paid and gets a really good mileage. The problem I had in last copule of years was burnt starter motor. Other than that, it is as reliable as universe!

Great commuter car
Super cheap to run, only down side is that VW parts are expensive although break downs are few and far between. Almost always am surprised when the gas buzzer goes off because you drive forever before refueling. I am the second owner and have put 150 kms on this car in the past 6 years. It has great torque at low rpms which powers you up hills when others are sputtering to get up. It handles very well and is sporty to drive. The body style is timeless, in fact VW liked it so much that they extended the same style in their VW Jetta City version well past 2005 when the Mark 4 was discontinued. My new Mazda doesn't get the same mileage, I wish I had bought another Jetta Diesel, in fact I think I will this summer.

Great
This car is pretty reliable for a 1-2 person driver. I t provides cd player, seat warmers, air conditioning, most of the features of a typical car. I would say it's very relaxing to drive for hours on end, and it's fuel is very reliable. For a half decent car this is a really good start.
