Range Rover Evoque and Velar to Be Discontinued: Report

Land Rover will discontinue production if its two most affordable models, the Range Rover Evoque and Velar. After the current generation of the model ends, they reportedly not be replaced.
Specifically, the models will continue to be assembled until the middle of 2027, and global sales will stop by the end of the year, a Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) spokesperson told Road & Track. Certain markets may even lose the models before then.
Sales of the Evoque and Velar will be concentrated in “selected global markets” where demand remains strong. AutoTrader reached out to JLR for information regarding Canadian availability but had not heard back at time of publishing.
When the models go out of production, they will have led long lives. The current Evoque — the smallest model in Land Rover’s lineup — was introduced in 2018 and refreshed in 2024. The current generation of the Velar, meanwhile, first hit showroom floors in 2017, receiving its own update in 2024.
Without the subcompact Evoque and the compact Velar, Land Rover loses its two most affordable entry points for new customers. The former starts at around $60,000 while the latter starts at around $70,000 before taxes and fees. The next most affordable model in the Ranger Rover line, the Range Rover Sport, starts at around $145,000.
With the departure of the roughly $60,000 Land Rover Discovery Sport last year, the $90,000 Discovery will soon become the most affordable Land Rover on sale in Canada.
In their comments to Road & Track, the JLR spokesperson indicated that JLR’s Solihull plant will manufacture the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and the upcoming Jaguar Type 01. Its plant in Halewood will focus on the Range Rover GT and a new entry to the Defender family of vehicles. No information on its plant in Slovakia, where the Discovery is made, was offered.
One way or another, these moves suggest that JLR is focused on big spending customers, pulling focus from its premium vehicles, and putting it all into its luxury vehicles.
