Volkswagen Beetle 1970Change

My very first car!! Was super noisy internally and externally, no way to ever sneak home after curfew!! Gears were hard to use, could never get reverse first time, you had to push down and pull to left. Was fun trying and listening to the sounds of the engine whilst giggling loudly with friends who were coming for a ride. Very fond memories of this classic old car.

A true classic that is still around today in its various reincarnations. This was one dependable automobile. For the first time the Beetle had a gas gauge and a car heater that burned gasoline. It had one of the earliest rear window defrosters and a front windshield that was in one piece. The trunk space, which was in the front, of course was not very spacious but it was adequate especially if you did not own a suitcase. The Beetle's strength was in the snow. It could out perform almost any car on any slippery hill. There were very few four wheel drive cars around in the early 1970s. Repairs were cheap and easy.
