Mazda CX-7

Issue:
On certain vehicles, an incorrect fuel level may be displayed on the instrument cluster. As a result, the driver may be unaware of how much fuel is in the tank, and the vehicle could run out of fuel and stall.

Safety Risk:
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
To reduce the safety risk, Mazda advises that you should refuel before the fuel gauge reaches ¼ level until the recall repairs have been completed. Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the body control module software.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, a problem with the inverter software could cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels.

Safety Risk:

Corrective Actions:
Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the inverter software.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, software problems with the powertrain control module (PCM) and engine control module (ECM) could cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels.

Safety Risk:
A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the PCM and ECM software.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, there could be a software problem with the dash electrical supply unit. As a result, the windshield defroster, the seat belt reminder sound and tell-tale, the 360-degree view monitor and high-voltage battery cooling system may not work properly.

Safety Risk:
A windshield defroster and/or a 360-degree view monitor that doesn't work could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash. A seat belt warning that doesn't work correctly may not remind you and/or passengers to buckle your seat belt. Not wearing your seat belt can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the dash electrical supply unit software.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-030.
