Mazda

1 / 6

Mazda sold 81,746 vehicles in Canada in 2025, up 13.2%, in what it called its third-best year in the country. The CX-5 set an all-time record with 28,288 sales and is all-new for 2026, with all-wheel drive now standard. Mazda's lineup is now almost entirely SUVs with standard all-wheel drive, plus the Mazda3 and the MX-5 roadster. The US-built CX-50 is no longer shipped to Canada because of counter-tariffs, and after price cuts in June 2026 the base CX-70 and CX-90 plug-in hybrids qualify for the federal rebate. Mazda is also the only brand in Canada whose comprehensive warranty has no kilometre limit.

What's new and what's gone at Mazda Canada

  • New CX-5: the next-generation 2026 CX-5 arrived with standard all-wheel drive and a 187 hp 2.5L engine, from CA$36,300, up CA$3,400 from the 2025 base model. The turbo was dropped, and a hybrid is expected later.
  • PHEV price cuts: in June 2026, Mazda Canada cut the base CX-70 PHEV and CX-90 PHEV by CA$3,751 each, bringing both under the federal rebate cap.
  • Gone: Mazda stopped shipping the Alabama-built CX-50 to Canada in May 2025 because of counter-tariffs, and only limited inventory remains. The MX-30 EV, Mazda6 and CX-3 are also no longer sold.

Mazda plug-in hybrids and the federal rebate

Mazda does not currently sell a fully electric vehicle in Canada. Its electrified lineup is the mild-hybrid inline-six in the CX-70 and CX-90 and the 323 hp plug-in hybrid versions of both, which can cover short daily trips on electricity: up to 51 km in the CX-70 PHEV.

The federal EV Affordability Program pays up to CA$2,500 on an eligible plug-in hybrid in 2026, dropping to CA$2,000 on January 1, 2027. Imported vehicles must come from a free-trade partner, and the final transaction value must be CA$50,000 or less. Freight, PDI and taxes are not counted, but dealer and administration fees are. The CX-70 PHEV GS SC (CA$48,999) and CX-90 PHEV GS (CA$49,999) qualify, but the CX-90 leaves almost no room for fees or add-ons, so check the final figure on your bill of sale. Higher PHEV trims are over the cap.

Where Mazdas come from

Mazda does not build vehicles in Canada. The CX-5, CX-70, CX-90 and MX-5 come from Japan, and the Mazda3 and CX-30 mainly from Salamanca, Mexico. The only US-built Mazda, the CX-50, was withdrawn from Canada in 2025 because of Canada's counter-tariffs on US-built vehicles, and Mazda Canada is relying on more imports from Japan and Mexico instead.

Mazda warranty and ownership costs

Coverage or costWhat to expect
Comprehensive warranty3 years, unlimited km
Powertrain warranty5 years, unlimited km
Anti-perforation7 years, unlimited km
Roadside assistance3 years, unlimited km
Emissions8 years, unlimited km

The unlimited-kilometre terms matter most to high-mileage drivers: a Mazda driven 40,000 km a year keeps its powertrain coverage for the full five years, while most rivals' coverage would end on distance first. Mazda's naturally aspirated 2.5L engines are generally simple to maintain; turbo and inline-six models benefit from premium fuel for full power.

Buying a used Mazda in Canada

Check what warranty is left

Because Mazda's warranties have no kilometre limit, a high-mileage two-year-old Mazda may still have comprehensive coverage, and a four-year-old one may still have powertrain coverage. Confirm the original in-service date.

Consider the CX-50 used

The CX-50 is no longer imported new, but used examples from 2023 to 2025 are available. Mazda Canada dealers continue to service them.

Run the VIN for recalls

In September 2025, Mazda recalled 14,350 2024 to 2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 models in Canada for an incorrect fuel-gauge reading. Check any used Mazda against Transport Canada's recall database and confirm the work was done.

Look underneath

Road salt is hard on any vehicle. Inspect rocker panels, wheel arches, brake lines and subframes on any used Mazda that has spent winters in Ontario, Quebec or the Maritimes.
