Low-cost city cars are hardly the stuff to get your engine revving, but Chevrolet proves that efficiency on a budget can be interesting. With its bug-faced visage, hidden rear door handles, and standard alloy wheels the Spark is definitely not forgettable. Especially not in Lime. Or Lemonade. Or Grape Ice Metallic.
Though it’s Chevy’s most affordable and smallest model, the Spark is spacious enough for six-footers to get comfortable behind the wheel. Amazingly, GM has seen fit to offer every Spark with 10 standard airbags and standard OnStar 4G LTE with built-in WiFi. 1LT and 2LT come also get a 7.0-inch touchscreen display audio system with USB ports, Siri Eyes Free and Bluetooth. Interestingly, the Spark isn't offered with a CD player, which goes to show how well GM knows its target demographic.
All Sparks are powered by a 1.2-litre engine that makes 84 hp and 83 lb-ft of torque. It’s not much, but it’s enough to move the Spark along at city speeds. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, with a CVT being an optional extra.
In LS trim, features include 15-inch alloy wheels, body-colour door handles, OnStar with 4G LTE and WiFi, electronic immobilizer, automatic headlights, spoiler with integrated LED centre high-mounted brake light, cargo net, driver information centre, tire pressure monitor, tilt steering wheel, driver side vanity mirror, power windows, four-way manually adjustable front manual seats, cloth seating, 60/40 flip and fold rear seats, and four-speaker AM/FM audio with aux-in jack.
The Preferred Equipment Group 1SB adds CVT and air conditioning with air filter.
1LT trim adds power mirrors, remote keyless entry, alarm, air conditioning with air filter, remote keyless entry, power door locks, centre stack trim, cruise control, floor mats, Bluetooth, six-speaker audio system, USB port, satellite radio, MyLink display audio system with 7.0-inch colour touchscreen, map lights, exterior temperature display, and vanity mirrors.
2LT trim adds single chrome exhaust outlet, sport front and rear bumpers, chrome tailgate handle, fog lights, body-colour power heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, body-colour lower rockers, silver painted roof rails, 15-inch aluminum wheel with painted pockets, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and leatherette seating surfaces.
