Instead of “Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family” car (the LEfAF, apparently), I think Green Operational Regenerative Energymobile (the GORE) or the Clean Low Orbit Original New Energy mobilitY, erm, solution (the CLOONEYs) could work, because name recognition sells. Never mind the fact that Leaf is a great name for an environmentally friendly electric car (because nature!), the notion that Nissan wants to earn an all caps LEAF at every mention seems a bit greedy for a company making a concerted effort to lower its footprint and make the world a better place.

Rallybob9771 after 3 years, still great November 22, 2017 SL
Overall Score
See older review I posted from Sep. 2015. So, now , after 38 months, this car is still great. Still cost about 2 cents/km. to drive. Less if you find some free charging. Also, since this model has the fast DC charging and more fast chargers everyday, you can travel farther with only a little time lost stopping to charge. I am in London, On and travel to Stratford on a regular basis. I also got to Toronto, which is out of the cars normal range. I have the 24 KW/hr battery. the 2016 got a 30 KW/hr battery increasing the range 27%. The 2018 will be much better. Even with this range, I can go to Toronto (about 200 kms.). I simply stop for 10-12 minutes to get my charge up to about 80%+. I stop where the charger is at a Starbucks, use the washroom, get a coffee and off I go. The fast charger in Milton charges 28 cents a minute. Repairs are next to nothing. In the 38 months I have had the car, I have replaced the cabin air filter and all wiper blades. One brake fluid flush and yearly brake cleaning and lube. My wife loves this car and does not want to see it go back to the dealer. With the new 2018 coming next year, Nissan has let me plus other extend the lease period up to a year with 3 months free. This has been perfect for us. We got to keep this car longer until the newer, longer range cars get here, besides the Chevy Bolt EV and the Tesla 3. For most folks, any of these will work as the second car, as most now have 200 kms + range. The Bolt EV is almost 400 kms and the Tesla3 is 500 kms with the larger battery. 2018 should be the year we have been waiting for. More longer range models and more cars coming available that year or soon after. While the nay-sayers will balk at the charging on longer trips, most trips fit within in the range of the cars that are out there now. Forget standing in the rain filling a gas car or waiting for an open pump. I pull into the garage at home, plug in and go inside.

Issue: When the car is parked in very cold temperatures for a long time, a relay in the brake system may freeze. If this happens, multiple brake warnings will stay on in the instrument cluster after the car is started. The driver may also notice a hard brake pedal. If the car is driven, this could cause an increase in stopping distance. Safety Risk: An increase in stopping distance could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will mail owners a letter explaining this problem. The letter will describe how the brake warnings work. Drivers should not drive the car if the warnings stay on. Nissan will provide a 4 year/80,000 km warranty extension to repair the problem with relay freezing.

On certain vehicles, the passenger's frontal airbag may not deploy correctly due to an issue in manufacturing. As a result of long-term storage, there could be insufficient compression strength of the coolant within the inflator housing of the passenger's frontal airbag, which may cause the airbag to fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash (where deployment is warranted), which could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger's frontal airbag inflator.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system could allow an adult sitting in the front passenger seat to be classified as a child or an “empty seat”. This would suppress the airbag, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: For affected Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Sentra vehicles, dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit and the occupant classification system control unit. For affected Leaf, NV200, Pathfinder, Q50 and JX35/QX60 vehicles, dealers will replace the occupant classification system electronic control unit.

On certain vehicles, when the vehicle is parked in cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time, the relay inside the electronic brake booster may freeze. This may result in increased brake pedal effort, which could increase stopping distances, potentially resulting in a crash causing injury and/or damage property. Correction: An Electric Vehicle certified dealer will reprogram the electrically-driven Intelligent Brake Control Unit software. Note: If this condition were present, a brake warning lamp would illuminate when the vehicle is first started to alert the operator of the issue.
