On sale since 2008, Audi’s AWD compact crossover gets a mid-life upgrade for 2013. The exterior changes are admittedly subtle, and interior alterations are limited to changes to the switchgear and multimedia connections. The biggest Q5 changes are a new supercharged V6 and a hybrid – Audi’s first hybrid in Canada. While the base Q5 2.0T returns with a 211-hp turbocharged I4, a 272-hp supercharged 3.0L V6 replaces the older, naturally aspirated 3.2. The Q5 Hybrid mates the 2.0T’s turbo-four with an electric motor sandwiched between engine and transmission for a combined 245 hp, plus 23 percent improvement in city fuel economy with an electric-only range of a little over three kilometres at 60 km/h.
For 2013, the refreshed Q5 2.0 TFSI comes standard with 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth, music interface, four-spoke leather steering wheel, heated front seats, power driver's seat with lumber, roof rails, heated outside mirrors and LED taillights.
2.0TFSI Premium models add unique 18-inch wheels, power front seats with driver memory, aluminum roof rails, power tailgate, auto-dimming inside mirror with compass, high-gloss exterior trim, power-folding auto-dimming outside mirrors, rear park assist, Xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, headlight washers, three-zone climate control and colour driver information system.
The move up to the 2.0 TFSI Premium Plus model adds Homelink, panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, intelligent keyless entry with pushbutton start, side assist and steerable headlights with cornering lights.
The 3.0 TFSI starts at the Premium trim level and can be optioned up to Premium Plus, with similar standard features as the 2.0 TFSI models.
Hybrid models build on the 2.0 TFSI Premium Plus trim, and add 19-inch wheels, navigation with MMI controller, hybrid-specific instrument cluster, Bang & Olufsen stereo, rear door sunshades and a thermo cupholder.
