BMW Announces Canadian Pricing, Ludicrous Range for iX3 Electric SUV

BMW Canada has announced that the iX3 50 xDrive will come with an impressive starting price of $75,900. What’s even more impressive is that Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has certified that electric vehicle (EV) will be able to go an estimated 698 km per charge, the price might make more sense.
That range estimate far surpasses BMW’s earlier, internal estimates, which suggested the iX3 would be able to go 650 km per charge. Even then, the new crossover was among the longest range EVs in its segment and, with this announcement, it leads by a significant margin.
For example, the longest range Tesla Model Y on sale today starts at just $64,990. However, it is only rated to go 542 km of range per charge. The price to range ratio only gets more surprising when you compare the iX3 to European EVs.
The Volvo EX60 is perhaps the iX3's closest competitor right now. The Swedish SUV has a higher starting price, $77,500, and it can only go 514 km per charge.
By the numbers, the iX3 sits somewhere between the Audi Q4 e-tron (which starts at $63,440) and the Q6 e-tron (which starts at $84,450) but outruns them both. The former runs out of juice after an estimated 463 km, while the latter goes 523 km per charge.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV have yet to be announced, but its North American range estimates will be nowhere near as long as the iX3's. So far, Mercedes has only released European estimates, which are significantly more generous than North American ones, and even by those inflated standards, the GLC EV can only go 700 km. By the time it arrives here, it should be on par with the Volvo EX60.
Something of a coup for BMW, the iX3 will be able to go over 100 km farther per charge than any of its closest competitors and, by our reckoning, is the longest-range EV on the market with a starting price under six figures.
Customers interested in the new model can now reserve one. The 2027 BMW iX3 is expected to reach Canadian showrooms this fall.
