History/Overview
Audi introduced the Q3 as its entry-level crossover model in 2015. It was redesigned late in the 2019 model year and so 2020 is effectively the first year for a new, second-generation version of this subcompact utility.
Available Trims
Audi offers the Q3 in familiar Komfort, Progressiv and Technik trims. All three use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed transmission and Quattro AWD.
Standard Features
New to the standard features list this year is a first aid kit.
Standard exterior features in Komfort trim are 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights with dynamic turn signals, a panoramic sunroof, heated side mirrors, and black roof rails and window trim.
Interior items include cruise control, ambient lighting, two-zone climate control, power driver's seat with four-way lumbar, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker stereo with satellite radio and 8.8-inch infotainment display, digital gauge cluster, drive modes and an anti-theft alarm with motion sensor.
The Q3's standard safety kit comprises tire pressure monitoring, pre-sense basic collision avoidance assist, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic on/off headlights.
Progressiv trim adds 19-inch wheels, S line exterior trim, aluminum roof rails, auto-dimming rearview mirror, lighted door sills, lane departure warning, aluminum interior accents and inlays, high-gloss window surrounds, power front passenger seat with four-way lumbar, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, an integrated garage door opener, passive keyless entry, a power tailgate, and front and rear parking sensors.
Finally, the Technik package comes with navigation, Audi Connect services, a rear-seat USB port, a heated steering wheel, Audi's virtual cockpit gauge cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, auto-dimming side mirrors, Apple CarPlay, 360-degree exterior camera views, coloured ambient interior lighting, and a B&O 3D sound system.
Key Options
A convenience package adds passive keyless and parking sensors to the Komfort trim. A navigation package adds that feature, plus the virtual cockpit, larger infotainment screen, CarPlay and Audi Connect, to the Progressiv model.
Progressiv and Technik trims can be optioned with an S line sport package, while the advanced driver assistance group brings adaptive cruise, park assist, automatic high beams and more advanced collision avoidance.
Fuel Economy
Audi's fuel consumption estimates for the Q3 are 12.3/8.6 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
With the Q3, Audi finds itself in competition with the BMW X1 and X2, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, Volvo XC40, Cadillac XT4, Infiniti QX30, Lincoln Corsair, Acura RDX, Lexus NX, Buick Encore, and Jaguar E-Pace.
