History/Overview

The Volvo S60 is the Swedish brand’s handsome compact sedan model. The third-generation S60 arrived in 2019 with the model’s first use of distinctive styling cues like the “Thor’s hammer” headlights that already adorned some of the company’s other models.

Non-hybrid versions of the S60 are covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

New for 2022 is an extended-range powertrain that nearly doubles the S60 Recharge’s electric-only driving range.

Available Trims

Volvo offers the S60 Recharge in R-Design and Polestar Engineered trim levels. In both, power is from a combination of a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and electric power; certain versions add supercharging to the engine for more performance. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission are standard across the board.

Standard Features

R-Design trim comes with dual-zone A/C, digital gauges, auto-dimming power-folding side mirrors, navigation, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, Nappa leather upholstery, passive keyless entry, hands-free trunk, heated/power-adjustable front seats, and a Harman Kardon stereo.

The standard safety package comprises blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front/rear park assist, lane keeping assist, oncoming lane mitigation, and road sign information.

Polestar Engineered models add a heated steering wheel, headlight washers, Brembo brakes, sport suspension, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, park assist, 19-inch wheels, heated rear seats, and a Bowers & Wilkins stereo.

Fuel Economy

The new extended-range powertrain is the more efficient of the S60 Recharge’s two options, with energy consumption estimates of 3.0 Le/100 km on electricity alone, and 8.0/7.2 L/100 km (city/highway) on a combination of gas and electricity. The standard powertrain’s ratings are 3.2 Le/100 km on electricity and 8.4/7.0 L/100 km in hybrid mode.

Competition

The Volvo S60 Recharge’s only direct competitor is the BMW 330e xDrive.
