What's new for the 4Runner

  • 2026: a digital rearview mirror and trailer brake controller become standard on the TRD Off-Road Premium and Limited. The rest carries over.
  • 2025: the all-new sixth generation reached Canadian dealers in March 2025, adding the Platinum and Trailhunter trims.
  • 2027: Toyota Canada has not announced 2027 pricing. U.S. reports point to a carryover with a new colour for the TRD Pro.

Know the generations

The fifth generation (2010 to 2024) used a 4.0L V6 with 270 hp and a five-speed automatic, rated 12.5 to 14.9 L/100 km. The sixth generation (2025 on) uses the turbo four or hybrid and is more efficient.

Fifth-generation issues to check

AutoTrader's used review flags front axle seal leaks (often with oversized wheels), driveline groan around 50 km/h, tailgate rust and worn tailgate struts, and passenger airbag warnings from damaged under-seat wiring.
