Land Rover

1 / 8

Land Rover now sells its SUVs under three families: Range Rover for luxury, Defender for off-road capability and Discovery for family practicality. Sales in Canada are surging in 2026, up 40% in the first half to 6,836 vehicles, led by the Defender, whose sales nearly doubled. The lineup runs from the Range Rover Evoque at about CA$67,000 to Range Rover SV models above CA$300,000, and the first Range Rover Electric is now open for orders. Many models are priced over CA$100,000 and pay the federal luxury tax. Reliability surveys continue to rank the brand below average, so a certified pre-owned warranty is worth considering on a used one.

What's new and what's ending at Land Rover Canada

  • Range Rover Electric: orders opened in September 2026 for the first electric Range Rover, from CA$225,016. Canadian delivery timing has not been confirmed.
  • Defender sales boom: Defender sales rose 91% in the first half of 2026. For 2027, the Defender 90 and 110 drop the four-cylinder in favour of a 296 hp inline-six.

Plug-in hybrids and the Range Rover Electric

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are offered as plug-in hybrids, with up to about 82 km of electric range in the Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Electric is the brand's first EV, with a 118.5 kWh battery and up to 535 km of estimated range. A Range Rover Sport Electric is expected in 2027. Land Rover does not sell a diesel in Canada.

Luxury tax and rebates

Luxury tax. Canada's federal luxury tax applies to new vehicles priced over CA$100,000. It is the lesser of 10% of the full price or 20% of the amount over CA$100,000, with GST or HST charged on top. It applies to every Range Rover, Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport, to the Defender OCTA and upper Defender trims, and to the Discovery Tempest. The full-size Range Rover's gross vehicle weight rating is under the 3,856 kg exemption threshold, so it does not escape the tax. Options can push a Velar, Defender or Discovery over CA$100,000.

The federal EV Affordability Program pays up to CA$5,000 on an eligible EV and CA$2,500 on a plug-in hybrid, but imported vehicles must have a final transaction value of CA$50,000 or less. Every Land Rover EV and plug-in hybrid is far above that cap, so none qualifies.

Budget for scheduled maintenance, which is not included, and for repairs once the four-year warranty ends. Buying a used Land Rover in Canada

Consider Land Rover Approved

Approved certified pre-owned vehicles are under five years old with under 100,000 km. They get a 165-point inspection, coverage up to seven years or 160,000 km from the original in-service date, 24/7 roadside assistance, no deductible and a CARFAX report.

Check the mild-hybrid recall

In April 2026, Land Rover recalled about 14,500 mild-hybrid vehicles in Canada from the 2020 to 2024 model years for a DC/DC converter fault, with the remedy still being developed. Check Transport Canada's recall database and ask the retailer about the status of the fix.

Get a pre-purchase inspection

Air suspension, electronics and infotainment systems can be expensive to repair. Have a Land Rover specialist inspect any used model outside its warranty.
