History/Overview
The Acura TLX is an upscale mid-size sport sedan that’s priced more like a compact. Known as the TL prior to 2015, the TLX shares some of its underpinnings and architecture with the Honda Accord. The current second-generation TLX was introduced last year.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the TLX for 2022.
Available Trims
Acura offers the TLX in base, Tech, A-Spec, Platinum Elite, and Type S trims. Powering most of those configurations is a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission; the only exception is the top Type-S model, with gets a turbo 3.0L V6. All-wheel drive is standard in all TLX variants.
Standard Features
The TLX’s base trim comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, passive keyless entry, and a sunroof. Interior niceties include a 10.2-inch touchscreen, an auto-dimming mirror, dual-zone A/C, 10-speaker audio, heated/power-adjustable front seats, and leatherette for all seating positions. Among the TLX’s standard safety items are forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and traffic jam assist.
Tech trim brings a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, 19-inch wheels/tires, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, parking sensors front and rear, wireless phone charging, an upgraded stereo, and a heated steering wheel.
A-Spec models get LED fog lights, another stereo upgrade, Ultrasuede seating, and approach lighting.
Platinum Elite’s additions are perforated leather upholstery, an adaptive suspension, 260-degree cameras, multi-adjustable front seats, and heated rear seats.
Finally, Type-S gets 20-inch wheels, and Brembo front brakes.
Fuel Economy
Acura’s fuel consumption estimates are 11.2/8.0 L/100 km (city/highway) for cars with the 2.0L engine, and 12.3/9.8 L/100 km in the V6-powered Type-S.
Competition
The TLX’s attractive pricing scheme and high value proposition lets it compete with a range of compact and mid-size luxury sedans, like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class, Volvo S60 and S90, the Infiniti Q50, Lexus ES, Audi A4 and A6, and the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series.
