NEW FOR 2009:
- Redesigned model
- Available Boxster S Porsche Design Edition
The Porsche Boxster is redesigned into its second generation for 2009, with new engines and transmissions, along with styling and performance upgrades. A 2.9-litre six-cylinder replaces the previous 2.7-litre, while direct fuel injection on the new 3.4-litre increases power. A six-speed manual replaces the five-speed on the Boxster, while the optional five-speed Tiptronic automatic is replaced with Porsche's seven-speed PDK double-clutch gearbox.
Exterior styling changes include new front and rear panels, larger headlamps, integrated turn signals, and LED rear lights. The Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 will be limited to 500 models worldwide.
Features on the Boxster include 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, four-piston calipers with ventilated brake discs, start-off assist, head and thorax side airbags, anti-theft system with interior sensor, keyless entry, heated mirrors, tire pressure monitoring system, three-spoke leather-wrapped wheel, on-board computer, lockable glovebox and storage compartment, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, garage door opener, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors, black instrument dials, power windows, heated seats, automatic extending rear spoiler and power top with heated glass rear window.
The Boxster S adds 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, light grey instrument dials and upgraded stereo.
The limited-edition Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2, priced at $85,500, includes Carrera White finish, painted 19-inch SportDesign wheels, white air intakes, centre console and instrument dials, grey body stripes, black upholstery, and stone grey convertible top. The package also adds a Porsche Design Edition 2 Chronograph men's wristwatch that echoes the car's white tachometer and speedometer.
Available options on the Boxster and Boxster S include adaptive bi-xenon headlamps with washers, LED driving lights, Sports Chrono Package, limited-slip differential, Bose surround sound stereo, ventilated seats, and Porsche Active Suspension Management. The Boxster S can also be optioned with ceramic composite brakes.
Considered one of the quintessential sports cars, the Boxster combines powerful performance with lightweight design, superb handling, aerodynamic styling and wonderful engine response. Everything works so well together that it will make even mediocre drivers look good, but it's sophisticated enough that an expert driver can really make it hum. More powerful engines add to its appeal, along with a six-speed manual on both models, and the new available double-clutch gearbox. Prices rise by less than one per cent from 2008.
