Genesis GV60 Efficiency and Range: Real-World Energy Use and Charging Costs

Compare Genesis GV60 Efficiency and Range real-world fuel or energy use, official ratings and expected running costs for Canadian drivers.

Searching “Genesis GV60 mpg”? In Canada, the battery-electric GV60 is rated by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in kWh/100 km and litres-equivalent per 100 km, not miles per gallon. The 2026 GV60 Sport AWD is rated at 23.3 kWh/100 km (2.6 Le/100 km) combined with up to 406 km of range. At NRCan’s forecast electricity price of $0.18/kWh, that works out to about $4.19 per 100 km.

Key Takeaways

  • NRCan rates the 2023 to 2025 GV60 at 22.1 kWh/100 km (Advanced AWD) and 23.0 kWh/100 km (Performance AWD) combined, with 399 km and 378 km of range.
  • The 2026 GV60 gets an 84-kWh battery. Genesis Canada currently sells one trim, the Sport AWD, at $84,150 (accessed Oct. 13, 2026), rated at up to 406 km.
  • At $0.18/kWh and 20,000 km a year, NRCan puts the annual energy cost of the 2026 GV60 at $839.
  • CAA’s winter test saw EVs cover 14 to 39 per cent less than their official range at −7°C to −15°C. Plan on far less than 406 km in January.
  • The GV60 doesn’t qualify for the federal EVAP incentive: its price is above the $50,000 cap for vehicles not made in Canada.

Official Ratings: What “Genesis GV60 MPG” Means in Canada

NRCan publishes the official fuel consumption ratings for every vehicle sold here. For electric vehicles, its tables show energy use in kWh/100 km and an equivalent figure in Le/100 km. NRCan’s battery-electric tables list no mpg figure for the GV60. The MPGe numbers online come from the American EPA’s test program, so they aren’t the Canadian fuel economy rating.

Here are the GV60’s NRCan ratings by model year, from the 2026 Fuel Consumption Guide and NRCan’s battery-electric dataset (accessed Oct. 13, 2026):

Model year and trimCity (kWh/100 km)Highway (kWh/100 km)Combined (kWh/100 km)Combined (Le/100 km)Range
2023 to 2025 Advanced AWD20.324.222.12.5399 km
2023 to 2025 Performance AWD21.725.523.02.6378 km
2026 Advanced AWD20.523.622.02.5430 km
2026 Performance AWD (sold as Sport AWD)21.725.523.32.6406 km

How Le/100 km Works

NRCan treats one litre of gasoline as equal to 8.9 kWh of electricity, so 23.3 kWh/100 km becomes 2.6 Le/100 km. Use Le/100 km to compare against a gas SUV. Use kWh/100 km, the energy consumption figure, to work out costs; that’s what your electricity bill measures.

The 2026 Update Adds Battery, Not Efficiency

The 2026 GV60 brings more battery capacity: 84 kWh, up from 77.4 kWh. Energy use barely moved. The GV60 range rose instead, from 378 km to 406 km on the dual-motor model. Our 2026 Genesis GV60 review covers the Sport AWD in detail. NRCan also lists a 2026 Advanced AWD at 430 km, but Genesis Canada’s current lineup shows only the Sport AWD.

Real-World Consumption: What Our Testing Found

Lab ratings are a starting point. Here’s what the GV60 did on Canadian roads.

Our Test Week: 19.0 kWh/100 km

In our 2023 Genesis GV60 review, our tester averaged 19.0 kWh/100 km over about 420 km, with no bad weather. That’s well under both trims’ combined ratings of 22.1 and 23.0 kWh/100 km.

A year later, the 2024 GV60 Performance tester matched its official estimates despite cool weather. In mild conditions, the NRCan figures look honest, even a little conservative.

Winter Range: What CAA’s Cold-Weather Test Suggests

Cold is where EV range drops. In CAA’s winter EV road test, run at −7°C to −15°C, the vehicles drove 14 to 39 per cent less than their official range. No GV60 took part. The GV60’s platform mates are the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, and the Ioniq 5 covered 262 km against a 410-km rating, a 36 per cent drop.

Apply CAA’s spread to the 2026 GV60’s 406 km and you get roughly 250 km to 350 km. That’s our estimate, not a measured GV60 result. Here’s more on how electric vehicles cope with Canadian winters.

City and Highway Results

The GV60 uses less energy in the city than on the highway. Most gas SUVs work the other way. The 2026 Sport AWD is rated at 21.7 kWh/100 km in the city and 25.5 kWh/100 km on the highway, about 18 per cent more on the open road.

Why the Highway Costs More

NRCan’s city cycle is stop-and-go traffic. Every stop lets regenerative braking send energy back into the battery. On the highway, there’s little braking to recover, and aerodynamic drag climbs sharply with speed. Our guide to regenerative braking explains the mechanism.

The combined rating assumes 55 per cent city driving. Commute mostly at 110 km/h? Plan around the highway figure.

Factors Affecting Efficiency

NRCan lists the factors that move your numbers away from the label. For an EV in Canada, a handful matter most:

  • Temperature: a cold battery and cabin heating both draw energy.
  • Speed: aerodynamic drag rises quickly as speed climbs.
  • Acceleration: hard launches burn energy, and the Sport AWD’s boost mode makes them tempting.
  • Accessories: air conditioning and heat add to the load.
  • Mileage: NRCan notes some vehicles don’t reach their best consumption until 6,000 to 10,000 km.

Trim matters too. The higher-output GV60 Performance and Sport AWD use about one kWh/100 km more than the GV60 Advanced in NRCan’s combined ratings.

Running Costs: Charging the GV60 at Home and on the Road

Home Charging Cost per 100 km

NRCan’s 2026 guide uses a forecast price of $0.18/kWh and 20,000 km a year. On that basis:

GV60 versionCombined ratingCost per 100 kmCost for 20,000 km
2023 to 2025 Advanced AWD22.1 kWh/100 km$3.98$796
2023 to 2025 Performance AWD23.0 kWh/100 km$4.14$828
2026 Sport AWD23.3 kWh/100 km$4.19$839 (NRCan)

Only the $839 figure is NRCan’s; we calculated the others the same way. As a rule, each cent per kWh adds about 23 cents per 100 km on the 2026 model.

Genesis Canada says a 240-volt, 48-amp Level 2 charger takes the 2026 GV60 from 10 to 100 per cent in about seven hours. NRCan rates a full recharge at 7.2 hours. Read everything you need to know about charging an EV at home before you install one.

DC Fast Charging Time and Cost

The GV60’s 800V electrical system is its big road-trip asset. Genesis Canada quotes 10 to 80 per cent in about 18 minutes on a 350-kW charger, with times varying by temperature and battery condition. In our 2023 test, it went from 65 to 99 per cent in 35 minutes. That speed put the 2025 GV60 on our list of the fastest-charging new EVs.

Public fast-charging rates are set by each network, per kWh or per minute.

Federal Incentives in 2026

Transport Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) offers up to $5,000 on new EVs bought or leased from Feb. 16, 2026. The final transaction value must be $50,000 or less unless the vehicle is made in Canada. At $84,150, the GV60 is well over that cap.

Ways to Improve Efficiency

Small habits stretch the GV60’s range, especially in winter.

  1. Use preconditioning while the car is still plugged in, so wall power warms the cabin.
  2. Lean on the heated seats. CAA notes they draw less energy than the cabin heater.
  3. Turn on battery conditioning before a fast-charging stop. Genesis says it preheats a cold battery and shortens charging time.
  4. Use the steering-wheel paddles to raise regeneration in city traffic.
  5. Park in a garage when you can, which keeps the battery warmer.
  6. Clear snow and ice off the car to cut weight and drag.
