Fiat 500e Range Guide: Winter Range, Charging Times and Battery Warranty

Explore the Fiat 500e Range, including its charging times, winter performance, battery warranty and ownership costs in Canada. Fiat 500e

The Fiat 500e range is 227 km on a full charge, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and that rating is the same for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 model years. In a Canadian winter, plan on roughly 138 to 195 km. A Level 2 charger fills the 42 kWh lithium-ion battery in about six hours, and Fiat Canada covers that battery for eight years or 160,000 km.

Key Takeaways

  • NRCan rates the 2024 to 2026 Fiat 500e at 227 km of range and 19.0 kWh/100 km combined.
  • In CAA’s 2025 winter test at −7°C to −15°C, EVs drove 14 to 39 per cent less than their NRCan range. The 500e wasn’t tested; the same losses would leave it with about 138 to 195 km.
  • An 11 kW Level 2 charger takes about six hours from empty; DC fast charging at up to 85 kW reaches 80 per cent in about 35 minutes, per Stellantis Canada.
  • Fiat Canada’s high-voltage battery warranty runs eight years or 160,000 km, transfers to the next owner and includes the electric drive motor.
  • As of October 2026, NRCan estimates the 2026 500e costs $684 a year in electricity over 20,000 km, against $2,100 in gas for a 2026 Honda Civic Hatchback.

Official Range: What NRCan Says About the Fiat 500e Range

NRCan publishes the official Fiat 500e electric range for Canada, and it hasn’t moved since the car arrived. Every model year shares the 87 kW (117 horsepower) motor with 162 lb-ft of torque.

Why You’ll See 240 km Quoted for the Same Car

Stellantis Canada’s 2024 launch material estimated 240 km. NRCan rated the car at 227 km, and Fiat’s April 28, 2026 release still quotes both. European WLTP figures come from a different test cycle and don’t apply here.

City vs. Highway: Where the 500e Range Holds Up

This is a city car, and its efficiency drops at speed. The 500e uses 20 per cent more energy per kilometre on the highway (20.9 kWh/100 km) than in town (17.4).

Real-World and Winter Range: What to Expect in Cold Weather

Lab ratings are one thing; real-world range with the heating on is another.

What AutoTrader’s Testers Found

In our 2024 Fiat 500e review, Sébastien Bell found 227 km covered a week of errands. Still, his state of charge was always on his mind, and a weekend road trip would have been much harder. For context, NRCan rates the 2024 Nissan Leaf SV at 240 km.

Estimating the Fiat 500e Winter Range

NRCan publishes no winter range. The CAA EV Winter Test tested 14 EVs from Ottawa to Mont-Tremblant at −7°C to −15°C in February 2025. The 13 that ran the range test covered 14 to 39 per cent less than their NRCan range.

The 500e wasn’t tested. Apply the same band to 227 km, and you get about 138 to 195 km, depending on temperature, speed and the cabin heater.

Level 2 Charger at Home: About Six Hours to Full

The included Level 1 charging cable adds about 6 km of range per hour, which suits only very short commutes. Our 2024 Fiat 500e first drive review measured 37 hours from 5 to 100 per cent. NRCan puts Level 1 at 3 to 8 km of range per hour of charging and Level 2 at 16 to 50 km, according to its EV charging guide.

Most owners will want a 240 V wallbox; charging can be scheduled overnight through Uconnect 5.

DC Fast Charging: 80 Per Cent in About 35 Minutes

The 85 kW peak charge rate is modest, but the 42 kWh battery pack is small, so sessions stay short. A Stellantis NACS adaptor lets 2024 to 2026 cars use Tesla V3 and V4 Superchargers. The Free2move Charge app finds stations.

Expect lower charging speed at low ambient temperatures. In CAA’s owner survey, 4 in 10 EV drivers called slower charging in extreme cold a problem.

Battery Warranty: Fiat Canada’s Eight-Year, 160,000 km Coverage

Fiat Canada backs the 500e with an eight-year or 160,000-km High Voltage Battery and E-Propulsion Limited Warranty, whichever comes first.

What the High-Voltage Battery Warranty Includes

The battery warranty covers:

  • the high-voltage battery and its internal pack components
  • the electric drive motor

The warranty has no deductible, transfers to later owners and excludes some commercial-use vehicles. Separate from it, basic coverage runs three years or 60,000 km, and 24-hour roadside assistance runs five years or 100,000 km.

Worried about battery life or battery degradation? Here’s why needing to replace an EV battery is statistically rare.

Buying a Used 500e With Coverage Left

The all-electric 500 reached Canada for the 2024 model year, so used ones should still have battery coverage unless they’ve passed 160,000 km. Fiat launched here with the 500e (RED) edition. Ask for the in-service date and service history.

Running Costs: What the Fiat 500e Costs to Charge

Energy is where the 500e earns its keep. It isn’t the total cost of ownership, which adds price, insurance and depreciation.

NRCan’s Annual Energy Estimate

As of October 2026, NRCan estimates $684 a year to drive a 2026 500e 20,000 km at a forecast $0.18 per kWh, or about $3.42 per 100 km. On the same basis as of October 2026, NRCan puts a 2026 Honda Civic Hatchback (2.0-litre) at $2,100 a year in gas, so the Fiat spends about two-thirds less.

Your home charging rate depends on your utility. For public charging, NRCan notes most networks bill by time or a flat fee rather than per kWh.

2026 Price and the Federal EVAP Rebate

The 2026 500e Pop trim starts at $39,995 and the Icona at $42,995, plus a $2,195 destination fee and $100 A/C fee, per Stellantis Canada’s April 28, 2026 release.

For a 2026 500e, Transport Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program pays up to $5,000 if it’s bought or leased on or after Feb. 16, 2026, and the final transaction value is $50,000 or less. As of October 2026, Transport Canada’s EVAP vehicle list includes the 2026 500e Pop and Icona at $5,000 for a purchase or 48-month lease, less on shorter leases. The maximum incentive for battery-electric vehicles drops to $4,000 in 2027, and the amount is set by the date the dealer submits the eligibility assessment, not the date you buy or lease.

Ownership Tips: How to Stretch Your 500e Range

The electric Fiat 500 has a small battery, so habits matter:

  1. Warm the cabin while plugged in, using the Uconnect app.
  2. Use heated seats; CAA says they draw less energy than the cabin heater.
  3. Clear snow and ice to cut weight and drag.
  4. Park indoors to keep the battery warmer.
  5. Drive in Range mode for one-pedal driving.

Driving Modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa

Normal mode coasts like a gas car. Range mode adds one-pedal driving. Sherpa mode is for emergencies: it limits top speed to 80 km/h and cuts power from 87 kW to 57 kW so you can reach a charger.

Plan EV Road Trips Around Charging Stops

Highway speed is the 500e’s weak spot. Map fast chargers before you leave, and top up before the battery runs low.
