- All 10 vehicles start under $31,000 MSRP.
- Prices are climbing for 2027: the Nissan Kicks S AWD rises from $29,498 to $30,098, and the redesigned Kia Seltos has a base MSRP $2,400 higher than before.
- The Subaru Impreza, Mazda CX-30, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, and Subaru Crosstrek include AWD on every trim. Elsewhere, AWD adds $1,400 to $2,300.
How We Ranked the Cheapest AWD Vehicles
This is a price ranking of all-wheel drive cars and crossovers, not a verdict on the best AWD cars. We rank the 10 most affordable AWD vehicles in Canada by the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of the cheapest trim that actually comes with all-wheel drive. That isn't always the base model.
We use the newest model year with a published Canadian MSRP. Several 2027 models have arrived this fall, and some 2026 stock is still on dealer lots, sometimes at a different price. We didn’t have an MSRP for the 2027 Kona as of Oct. 8, 2026, so we list the 2026 model.
What the Price Includes: MSRP, Freight, Taxes and Dealer Fees
Headings show the MSRP and, where the manufacturer publishes its freight and pre-delivery inspection (PDI) charge, the total with freight. Prices were checked on Oct. 8, 2026, against each manufacturer's Canadian site or newsroom, including Mazda Canada's 2026 CX-30 pricing release and Kia Canada's 2027 Seltos pricing release, and against AutoTrader.ca's own pricing data.
Sales tax, dealer fees, licence, and insurance come on top.
Where the Fuel Consumption Numbers Come From
Ratings come from the Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption ratings for the 2026 model year, updated Oct. 6, 2026. These are the all-wheel drive vehicles' ratings, not the front-wheel drive (FWD) ones. NRCan hadn't published 2027 ratings as of Oct. 8, 2026, so for 2027 models we use the manufacturer's own figure where it has one.
NRCan lists no AWD version of the 2026 Chevrolet Trax or Hyundai Venue.
AWD Vehicles Under $29,000 MSRP
Two subcompact SUVs and one car make up the three cheapest.
1. Mitsubishi RVR ES AWC (2027): $27,278 MSRP
The cheapest AWD vehicle in Canada, and the cheapest SUV in Canada with AWD, is the Mitsubishi RVR. It uses Mitsubishi's All-Wheel Control (AWC), a simpler system than the Eclipse Cross's S-AWC, and it's a $2,000 option over the $25,278 ES FWD.
The RVR is by far the oldest model here, first released in Canada for the 2011 model year. Its 2.0L four-cylinder makes 148 hp and 145 lb-ft, and Mitsubishi rates the 2027 ES AWC at 10.1 L/100 km city, 8.2 highway and 9.2 combined. An eight-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
2. Subaru Impreza Convenience: $28,295 MSRP (30,390 with $2,095 freight and PDI)
The Impreza 5-door is the cheapest AWD car here that isn't an SUV. Like almost every Subaru, it gets full-time symmetrical AWD as standard, and in true Subaru fashion, a 2.0L flat-four makes 152 hp and 145 lb-ft.
NRCan rates the 2026 Impreza at 8.0 L/100 km combined.
3. Hyundai Kona Essential AWD (2026): $28,749 MSRP
On the Kona crossover, AWD is a $2,000 option on the base Essential trim. The gas engine is a modest 2.0L four-cylinder making 147 hp and 132 lb-ft, and NRCan rates the 2026 Kona AWD at 8.5 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, depending on version. We didn’t have a 2027 MSRP when we checked prices, so this is the 2026 model’s price, and a 2027 may cost more.
Affordable AWD Cars and Crossovers From $29,000 to $30,000
This band holds the only hybrid on the list, and two of its three models include AWD on every trim.
4. Mazda CX-30 GX: $29,300 MSRP (31,395 with $2,095 freight and PDE)
Every CX-30 comes with Mazda's i-Activ AWD as standard, and for 2026 Mazda added a brake limited-slip differential across the lineup. The base GX gets a 2.5L four-cylinder making 186 hp and 186 lb-ft, the most power on this list, paired with a six-speed automatic.
NRCan rates the CX-30 at 8.7 L/100 km combined. Standard equipment includes an 8.8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and three-level heated front seats.
5. Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE AWD: $29,490 MSRP
The Corolla also appears on our list of the most affordable new cars in Canada for 2026. To get AWD, you have to pick the hybrid, which pairs a 1.8L four-cylinder with electric motors for a net 138 hp.
What the Corolla lacks in horsepower, it makes up for in efficiency. NRCan rates the Corolla Hybrid AWD at 4.9 to 5.3 L/100 km combined, depending on version. That's the best on the list by a wide margin. It's the top pick for commuters who want AWD without sacrificing fuel economy.
6. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES S-AWC: $29,798 MSRP (31,923 with $2,125 freight and PDI)
All-wheel drive is standard. Mitsubishi calls it Super All-Wheel Control, or S-AWC, with drive modes for snow and gravel and active yaw control, which brakes individual wheels on slippery roads.
Its interior design feels dated next to newer rivals. The 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder makes 152 hp and 184 lb-ft, and its 9.3 L/100 km combined is the highest NRCan rating on this list. Like the RVR, it has a 10-year or 160,000-km powertrain warranty.
Budget AWD SUVs From $30,000 to $31,000
Three of these four are 2027 models, and only the Crosstrek includes AWD on every trim.
7. Nissan Kicks S AWD (2027): $30,098 MSRP (32,148 with $2,050 freight and PDI)
The Kicks is one of the newer designs here, after a redesign for the 2025 model year. AWD adds $2,300 to the base S, and the 2027 S AWD costs $600 more than the 2026. A 2.0L four-cylinder makes 141 hp and 140 lb-ft, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto is standard. NRCan hasn't rated the 2027 Kicks yet.
8. Toyota Corolla Cross L AWD: $30,230 MSRP
The L AWD costs $1,400 more than the FWD L. Dynamic Torque AWD pairs with a 169-hp 2.0L four-cylinder and a CVT, rated at 7.8 L/100 km combined. Standard safety features include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, plus heated front seats and an eight-inch touchscreen.
9. Kia Seltos LX AWD (2027): $30,495 MSRP (32,595 with $2,100 freight)
The Seltos is completely redesigned for 2027, with more cabin and cargo space than before. AWD is a $2,000 option on the base LX, which uses a 2.0L four-cylinder with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission. Kia hasn't released fuel ratings for the new model yet.
10. Subaru Crosstrek Convenience (2027): $30,695 MSRP (33,190 with $2,495 freight and PDI)
AWD comes on every Crosstrek, and Subaru's system works full-time. The Crosstrek was also named the 2026 Best Subcompact SUV at the AutoTrader Awards.
A 2.5L four-cylinder makes 180 hp, and Subaru rates the 2027 model at 9.0 L/100 km city and 7.1 highway. Ground clearance is 220 mm, roughly 70 per cent more than the Subaru Impreza's 5.1 inches (about 130 mm).

Standard AWD vs Optional AWD
Four of these include AWD on all trims: the Impreza, CX-30, Eclipse Cross and Crosstrek. Systems differ too. Subaru's runs full-time, and Mazda's i-Activ AWD gains a brake limited-slip differential for 2026. Toyota's Dynamic Torque AWD in the Corolla Cross stays mostly disengaged and sends up to 50 per cent of the power to the rear wheels when the front wheels lose grip.

Just Missed the List: Chevrolet Trailblazer and Mazda3
The 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS AWD ($30,849 MSRP) lands 11th, $154 behind the Crosstrek. It has the smallest engine of the group, a 1.3L turbo three-cylinder making 155 hp, with a nine-speed automatic on AWD models, and NRCan rates it at 8.7 L/100 km combined. Chevrolet hasn't announced Canadian pricing for the 2027 Trailblazer yet.
The Mazda3, a compact car and one of the few AWD sedans at this price, lands 12th. AWD requires the GS Luxury Package, at $32,050 MSRP plus $2,095 freight and PDE, or $34,145. That's $2,000 more than the FWD GS Luxury and $4,200 more than the plain GS.
Cross-shopping? The Honda HR-V offers AWD too. If your budget stretches, see our AWD cars under $35,000.
Shopping a size up? The all-wheel drive system becomes standard more often, and even the Toyota Camry sedan offers AWD. NRCan lists only AWD versions of the 2026 Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, and Toyota RAV4, while the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Volkswagen Taos, and Buick Encore GX are rated with both FWD and AWD.
