The 2017 Toyota Prius c gets more safety features standard and a new body kit. To go with those extra features the brand's smallest hybrid gets a price hike of $740.
The new safety features for the Prius c are part of Toyota's Safety Sense C. This bundle comes with pre-collision system, lane departure alerts, and automatic high-beams. Toyota has been adding the C package, or Safety Sense P (which adds steering assist and radar cruise control) to most of their lineup for 2017. The pre-collision system uses a laser to warn drivers of impending collisions. It can add braking force if the driver applies the brakes too softly, but if the driver fails to brake, the system will brake automatically. It can't brake in time to stop the car completely, but Toyota says it will reduce speed by approximately 30 km/h to reduce the impact.
Toyota is also giving the Prius c a little bit of a makeover. Every trim level is getting a body kit with a new lower spoiler on the front bumper, with matte black front grille and rear bumpers, and new mudflaps and side-sills. Upgrade package models get a new 15-inch wheel design and top-trim Technology models get new fog light covers.
The hybrid system is unchanged and still uses a 1.5L four-cylinder and IMA system to deliver 99 hp and return 4.5 L/100 km city, 4.7 highway. The 2017 Prius c is on sale now.
