Buick Regal Wagon Coming to North America

Buick is gearing up to bring a station wagon version of its Regal model to North America as a 2018 model, according to reports from GM Authority and GM Inside News.

If this is indeed true, it would make Buick one of a very small number of automakers willing to peddle a wagon to this continent's crossover-crazy drivers: A long-roof Buick Regal would make it the only GM brand to offer a car to compete with the BMW 3 Series Touring, and Mercedes-Benz's forthcoming C-Class wagon, set to arrive in Canada this fall. This announcement comes as Buick's own latest crossover, the Envision, is due to go on sale in the near future; interior space-wise, a Regal wagon would slot in between the tiny Encore crossover and the mid-size Envision.

Like the sedan, a Regal wagon would be based on the Opel Insignia, a new generation of which will be unveiled this fall at the Paris auto show. We would count on a Regal wagon using the same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder used by the sedan, as well as standard AWD and, for North America at least, an automatic transmission.
