1998 Toyota Camry

by girlonfire on 10-20-2012
A great old folk's auto
The four cylinder is more than adequate. It is very comfortable and in a pinch can hold 5 people. It seems to run forever and
after 16 years of service it is still going, like the energizer bunny. Tires, battery, brakes and shocks are the only items that have been replaced. Even the muffler is still the original. It may even outlast the owner for longevity.

1988 Toyota Camry

by girlonfire on 10-20-2012
Truly dependable
My first Japanese car. American cars did not have a long life span and were more gloss than than dependable. The Toyota Camry was rated in the top 5 sedans in its class for many years beginning with this model. The car ran well, had adequate power with a 4 cylinder engine, had some style and was very comfortable. The only drawback was that some rust spots developed around the trim lines at about year 6 of ownership.

1970 Volkswagen Beetle

by girlonfire on 10-14-2012
A great car for $2000
A true classic that is still around today in its various reincarnations. This was one dependable automobile. For the first time the Beetle had a gas gauge and a car heater that burned gasoline. It had one of the earliest rear window defrosters and a front windshield that was in one piece. The trunk space, which was in the front, of course was not very spacious but it was adequate especially if you did not own a suitcase. The Beetle's strength was in the snow. It could out perform almost any car on any slippery hill. There were very few four wheel drive cars around in the early 1970s. Repairs were cheap and easy.

1980 Ford Mustang

Trim: Deluxe
by girlonfire on 10-14-2012
Classic
At the time this was a real jazzy car to own. It looked great and drove well. Although it was a little under powered it did pull a tent trailer (6 cylinder engine) and did some other tent camping. Not very big but it did manage to serve a family of four.

1953 Morris Minor

Trim: Soft top
by girlonfire on 10-14-2012
A fantastic first car (a classic)
A real fun car. Installed duel carburetors which greatly enhanced engine performance. Sold it in 1965 because it was time to move up. By then had gone through 3 engines, a number of mufflers and two soft top roofs. The Lucas electrical system in all English cars left much to be desired and the floor in the rear seat compartment had rusted through.

1965 MG MGB

Trim: Soft top

A truly fun car
Owned the car for 5 years and had great sport driving it around especially in the fine weather. The big disappointment was the transmission - it began to pack it in after about 5 years and 50 000 miles of ownership. Interior heating in cold winters, below freezing, was also a problem.

1986 Volkswagen Jetta

by girlonfire on 10-12-2012
She did the trick
Not the sexiest car in the world, my '86 Jetta was a rock solid purchase that with a little service just kept on going. A fairly smooth ride, it cornered well, and was decent in the snow and rain. The only drawbacks were the heavy fuel consumption and the door handles which broke regularly. With a combination of city and highway driving, and the greater proportion city, I would average between 350km per tank so it was a bit thirsty for a relatively small car. Great for a first time car, super safe and like I said, it would just keep going and going and going.

1988 Honda Prelude

by girlonfire on 10-12-2012
Sweet ride
I bought my Prelude used at about 50,000 kms. Took it in regularly for servicing and it never complained. While the ride can be stiff, the FWD responded well in rough conditions and you get excellent road feel. I really liked the precise handling and road hugging Prelude. Great long-term reliability. Fun to commute to work in or tool about town in on a lazy weekend. The Prelude was a great car for University, reliable, quick, the handling is superb, and it was a constant pleasure to drive.

1998 Subaru Impreza

Trim: RS
by girlonfire on 10-12-2012
1998 Car of the Year
It was 1998 Car of the Year! Great handling with AWD in sun, rain and snow, this car is a bomb in terms of zip, speed and power. Like watching the a rally races, this car can turn better than any other car I've ever driven especially at high speeds on the sharp corners. Love (and miss) the manual transmission now that I drive an automatic. Out of all the cars I've owned, this car was by far the most fun to drive. Upsized to a SUV for the expanding family, but if I needed another vehicle I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Subaru again in the future. :)

2007 Acura MDX

Trim: Tech package
by girlonfire on 10-12-2012
Comfort and style
We bought our MDX brand new and 5 years later, it still feels like a new car. The comfort and reliability of this car is second to none -- the AWD handled brilliantly in rather unexpected 4x4 conditions. Fuel economy on the 6L engine is not great, but what can we expect for a car of this size. Put your foot down and it responds as it should and handles really well. Perfect size for our family of 4 for camping, roadtrips and just kicking around town. Love this car!
