Fun ride - tight to the road
Despite not loving front wheel drive cars, I have always been impressed with the feel of the Probe. I am equally amazed at how it poughs through a TONNE of snow! You all know how last winter was! With winter tires this is a beast that makes it through.

Fun to drive and amazingly large interior !!
If you are looking for a dual use vehicle here is your car.

Not only fun to drive, but when the back seats are folded forward, the entire back space become a cargo area that I have fitted in a foose ball table into. And yes, you can even sleep in the rear as it is that long for a 5"10 tall guy to do so!!

This Ford Probe has been well maintained and babied. I have followed the Ford Maintenance schedule and it has had most its major components replaced, or repaired in the last few years. All the documentation and receipts are available for viewing.

The cloth seats are great in warm or cold weather as it will keep you warm or cool in either. The drivers seat has the optional lumbar and bolster support so if you have back issues, this is a super way to relax your lower back muscles while you drive.

It has very good handling characteristics, with the low profile design and tires. It is a sleek and unique design for sure, and the good visibility keeps you well in the loop of traffic around you.

I am selling it as we have purchased another vehicle and need the space for it.

Sleek, rare to find, Sexy, Sweet ride!
I love this car! Great ride, performance is amazing, big engine gives you great power when you need it!

The storage area in the rear is incredible for a vehicle of this size! Lots of storage area for cargo, drop down seats allow you to even sleep full length in the Probe! WOW.

Cool design, great cornering, and fun to drive! You have to check it out!

1993 Ford Probe

timeless
We bought the probe 20 years ago. It was then and still is a rocket on wheels (small 6). Changed the factory clutch after 13 years. Minor repairs, pumps, tires etc.Nothing major. The contour of the body leads to replacement of the locks (3 sets to date) . Surprisingly good in the snow. Drives like a true sports car but rides like one too. Not the car if you are looking for a luxury feel ride but if you like fast acceleration. Sharp cornering and handling and a look that always seems to stay in style then you will be happy with a probe.

Probe
Great but has its flaws. No cup holders and next to no performance parts. The 2.2L non-turbo engine has great fuel economy but could use a 6 speed transmission instead of the 5 speed transmission.

1989 Ford Probe

by Sinner on 11-04-2012
Fantastic Car
This is a low maintenance car when cared for properly. I replaced the clutch at around 150K, the Turbo was replaced two years before I bought it. I put a new power steering pump on it on it as well.
The motor has 165K on it, has a slight lifter noise, and needs a valve cover gasket. It uses about a quart of oil between oil changes. These problems are easily fixed and can be expected out of a 22 year old car.
With the proper exhaust this car has a really nice sound.
I plan to drive it until it lays down completely; and I don't think that will be any time soon.
Should you find a 1989 Probe GT Turbo don't pass it up! They are fun, beautiful, and reliable.

1996 Ford Probe

Best Bargain Sports Car From the 90's
It's fast, fun and even has flip-up head lights. I bought this car for just over $2000 and it has over 275,000 kms on it. But the car is still a looker and runs great. The styling has not aged and still appears quite modern. The flip-up headlights are great fun and have never broke down on me. Considering the high kilometers on the vehicle, I have had very little problems with rust. The Probe also is front wheel drive. This may not be very sporty but it makes the car quite manageable in the winter. The hatchback trunk and fold down back seats make it decently practical for a sports car. I have used it for everything, from transporting lumber (that a friends SUV couldn't handle) to moving into a new house. Now for the engine. The 2.0L Mazda V6 is great. It loves to be revved up past 4,000 rpm and has plenty of pull. The GT model also has upgraded suspension. This makes for a slightly stiff ride but it makes the Probe extremely fun on an empty, windy road. But watch out, the fuel economy is significantly lowered if it's driven aggressively. Although, if driven conservatively with the standard transmission, this car can be decent at the pumps. As for reliability, my Probe has rarely let me down. Even for its age and high mileage it is decently reliable and has never needed any large repairs. The Ford Probe GT is a great sports car for the price.

1990 Ford Probe

Trim: LX
by ChrisH on 10-16-2012
Not a long-term investment
The 1990 Probe LX was a nicely-designed addition to the Ford lineup. I remember the seats being very firm and uncomfortable on long road trips, but it had a nice bit of power. The power seatbelt option, which automatically extended and retracted the belt over the top of the window was a major pain, and once broken, rendered the car undrivable (without breaking seatbelt laws). In the early 1990's this car was HOT - if you can still find one in good condition, it might make a great starter or project car.

1993 Ford Probe

by Trader_John on 10-12-2012
Highly underrated.
I loved driving this car - sure it wasn't the most practical at times, the back seat is small and impractical, but the 5-speed coupled with a V6 never left me wanting for performance, and it handled like a dream for a car its size.

The interior was nothing to write home about - a little too much plastic and it tended to rattle a bit; the fit and finish wasn't the greatest inside. Large trunk though if you ever needed it.

I'd love to own another Probe, though I'd definitely be a bit picky as to the state of the interior.
