The best BMW model out there!
Excellent ride, extremely reliable in both summer and winter; contrary to what others may think of a RWD, since manual transmission allows driver to properly control the vehicle. Loved my Z4, many stories to be shared with this outstanding hard-top convertible roadster!

Makes driving fun!
I love the appearance, handling, and responsiveness of this car!

I have had much more expensive Jaguar and Audi sportscars with bigger engines and fancier electronics, but the BMW Z4 makes driving a pleasure, The bucket seats are incredibly comfortable for long trips, and the small size makes it easy to dart through traffic, or park in tight spots,

Add to all this that the gas mileage is actually pretty decent on this car and you can almost convince yourself it is a practical choice, even though you know you picked it because it's fun and sexy.

Love, LOVE my car!!
The Z4 is an absolute joy! Must more comfortable ride than the Boxster or the Lotus (Elise or Exige), but still corners amazingly well and has fantastic acceleration.
I took mine to Cape Breton to run the Cabot Trail. (A shame it's so far from Ontario - it's like a roller coaster for your car!!) Amazing drive with fabulous scenery!!

So greatly enjoyed this car. No other BMW is like it. Nothing else gets you closer to the road!!!

Far too much to pay (new) for something so impractical, but worth every penny!!! :)

Oh...and the tire comments people are making on the run flats. Shop around. I found them for $300 each at OK Tire near Kincardine.

RubFlat Tires
I decided in 2013 to install Allseason radial tires on my 2012 Z4, cosidering the cost of RunFlats. The best thing I did. The drive is significantly improved and the tires are $200,00 a pop. I purchased Flat repair Aerosols and keep two in the trunk. Should I get a flat. I can inflate the tire with Flat repair Aerosol to get me to a gargae. If the tire is irrepairable it will only cost $200.00. With RunFlats the cost per tire is well over $500.00 for replacement.
Best thing I did.\I totally enjoy the car.
Also the tread wear on allseasons is three times that of RunFlats.

Never should have solt it!
I owned a Z4 for 8 years. Great car. Solid. Never should have sold it. I did have to get the steering column replaced. There was a manufacturing defect which resulted in the steering "sticking" when the car was driven in extreme heat. BMW never admitted to the defect but it was eventually replaced under extended (non BMW) warranty. Quiet ride with the insulated soft top. Run flat tires a re a little pricey.

Z4 Manual: An Amazing Driving Experience
Bought this car new and still own it in 2014. The worst thing about driving this car is arriving at my destination because it means that the thrill of driving the car is over until the next time. Love the manual shift, clutching is terrific and car has never given me a spec of trouble nor has it ever needed any repairs.

The Ultimate Driving Machin
Its true......this BMW Z4 is probably still as tight as from the day it was new. It welcomes curves in the road, stops on a dime, and gets over 30 mpg on highway doing it! The comfortable 2500 mile trek from its home in San Bernadino California along parts of Route 66 to Ontario was a terrific adventure. The heated seats came in handy as we got closer to home, and the nights became chilly. I have a 2004 BMW wagon as well-great cars!

2003 Z4 Roadster 3.0L If you love to drive.....
I can agree and relate to the comments from others here. Except for the tiny trunk one. It's unbelievable what I've managed to fit in this trunk and if that fails I could always drop the top for bigger items like 2x4x8 (Only once or twice).

I've driven this car for 8 years, almost 200k. I like to drive track and for distance (Halifax from Toronto straight through 14 hours and back the same way). The handling and weight of this ride is the best of BMW engineering, the pick up off the line can snap your head back and with the top down all summer the visibility is go-cart like. In sport mode you can pass easily, which is great for the drives up north. Not bad at the pumps, just not a hybrid. Good in the rain with the DCL feature, amazing with snow tires (hold down the DSL for full traction control). With the proper maintenance, I never had any major repair issues with the car. Just stay ahead of repairs by checking the fluids, tires and brakes every 3-6 months addressing any needs that come up and this car will put a smile on your face every time.

Not recommended for those who don't want to be connected to the road, get uncomfortable with strangers saying nice car all the time, Babies (Newborns that is - My wife added that one, but it can work with the easy airbag shut off and seat ready features, I'm losing this battle without one accident ever), and those over 250 lbs or over 6'2".

If you can get one its a great commuter and makes you want to keep driving. Drive with care as good drivers are rare.

Thrilling ride
My Z4 has been an utter thrill to own. It handles very well in all weather conditions provided that the right tires are used. It's alway fun to drive with the top down - enjoy those rare moments.
It's got the extra zip you need to pass drivers on the highway, and its responsiveness is to the utmost.

BMW Z4 Run Flat Tire
Z4 with 19 inch wheel option - TPM indicated tire pressure issue. Took to dealer & was told of nail on side wall rear tire. Took dealer 1 week to get new tire. Cost of 1 rear tire replacement = $700. My Z4 had 3500 km.

In my area, Summer season is approximately 16 weeks long to enjoy open air driving. Sadly 1 week is in garage undrivable. Had I knew about this run flat problem, I wouldn't waist money on this toy.

BMW Z4
This car has only been used in the summer months and mostly just for leisurely drives to enjoy the sun and fresh air. Because of the upgraded package, this Z4 has a unique look and receives many compliments and second looks. I always feel like a million dollars when cruising around. I have always been impressed with the quietness of the engine and complete reliability.

This car is definitely worth a look.

FUN! FUN! FUN!
This car is very fast. It corners like it is on rails and is very comfortable on long trips. It is 100% mechanically and needs nothing but gas. A really nice car. Don’t drive it if you do not want to noticed. Drive in the “Sport” mode it pushes you into the seat. Shifting with the manual flippers is nice way to see just what it can do.

A Piece of Art that is glued to the road
It has been said that the coupe version of the 2006 Z4 looks like it should have been the original design. I have had pedestrians break out in applause when they look at the car. But the handling is what is truly amazing with its low profile, 50/50 back to front weight distribution, oversized brake discs and the amazing in-line 6 mated to a 6 speed transmission. I don't think I have ever had the DSC come on, despite some spirited driving.

Love this car
You can't beat the looks and performance in this class of vehicle. It turns heads wherever I go, even in it's 9th year. It's reasonably comfortable given it's size, however any small convertible can be a challenge space wise. It's been extremely reliable, and just all out fun on a nice summer day. Great acceleration and handling, with decent fuel economy. Only negatives - a bit on the pricy side and typical 'functional' BMW interior.

BMW Z4 - Overall Great Car
Personally, the BMW Z4 exterior design is amazing. It looks smooth and appealing. In my own experience, it was very comfortable to sit in. Performance is very smooth and has great fuel economy. The interior design looks very organized and in place. The technology (heat, lights, radio etc.) and other switches are easily accessible. After a year of driving with this car, I found it very reliable. It can run in all weather fairly well. The fuel economy is just outstanding.

Great Ride
This car is likely to be the highest performer of this chassis as it seems unlikely that there will be an M version.

One thing I would definitely say about this car is that it is more luxurious, the equipment (if you can afford it) is seriously impressive, the on-board computer only just stops short of washing the car, the interface is miles better than before etc. This does hint that the car is aimed at a different audience and from a driving point of view that isn't a good thing.

Overall, its very good.

Tough to beat the mix of performance, features, fuel economy and price
This is a great little track car, powerful straight 6 with excellent power to weight, and tremendous handling performance. Its low to the ground, with low profile tires and a very stiff suspension, so you feel every bump, but presumably you're looking for performance in a car like this, so don't complain! She behaves like an overpowered go-kart that's glued to the road. I had been considering several V8 sports cars when I bought this, but was sensitive to fuels economy at the time as this was my daily driver, and also wanted a convertible. I've never regretted it, I average 25MPG, and I do NOT drive it in an economical fashion! Even after many years, this car's looks are timeless. I sometimes think about what to do when it comes time to replace her, and over the years I've done some investigating, the Z4 (now Z4M) still is top of the charts for my needs. I wouldn't recommend wasting time with the 2.5 litre motor though, unless you just want it for looks, the 3.0 with sport pack was a must for me, and makes a lot of difference.

Pluses:
Mileage
Perfomance
Looks
Reliability
Value

Cons:
Run-Flat Tires (ride, cost)
Ride Comfort (I'm ok with it, the wife, not so much)
Repair cost (BMW is expensive when time to repair, but happens infrequently)
Tiny trunk/storage (you'll adapt!)
