An all-new model for 2010, the Volvo XC60 undergoes several changes for 2011, the most notable being an increase in horsepower. The 3.2-litre engine goes from 235 to 240 horsepower, while the turbocharged T6 increases from 281 to 300 horsepower.
Other changes are in trim, with all models receiving 18-inch alloy wheels, the T6 receiving a panoramic sunroof as standard equipment, and hill descent control used only all-wheel drive models. There are also changes to the equipment lists in various option packages, and the speakers in the Premium Sound package switch from Dynaudio to Harman, although the performance does not change.
The XC60 comes with a choice of two engines: a 3.2-litre inline six-cylinder in the 3.2 models, and a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder in the T6. Both use a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2 comes in front- or all-wheel drive, while the T6 is all-wheel drive only. The Haldex all-wheel system is front-wheel biased, but will transfer power to the rear wheels when necessary.
The XC60 is the first to offer Volvo’s new City Safety system, which is standard on all models. At speeds of between four and 30 km/h, it will first warn drivers of impending low-speed rear-end collisions and then, if the driver does not respond, it will apply the brakes and bring the vehicle to a stop.
Features on the 3.2 FWD include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, City Safety, brake assist, front and rear fog lights, headlight washers, heated washer nozzles, heated mirrors, puddle lamps, roof rails, aluminum interior accents, heated seats, power driver’s seat with memory, tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, CD stereo, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors, locking illuminated glovebox, floor mats, outside temperature gauge, auto up/down windows, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, and trip computer.
The 3.2 AWD adds power rear child locks, blind spot information system, hill descent control, leather upholstery, power passenger seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and retractable side-view mirrors.
The T6 adds 18-inch alloy wheels, level sensor, mass movement sensor, Four-C Active Chassis, speed-sensitive steering, front LED lamps, tinted glass, heated rear seats, “watch dial” instrument cluster, six-CD/HD stereo, Sirius satellite radio, panoramic sunroof, 12-volt cargo area outlet, grocery bag holder, garage door opener, humidity sensor, infrared rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking assist, power liftgate, privacy glass, and sunglass holder.
The R-Design adds R-specific 18-inch alloy wheels, sport chassis, R-Design grille and mirrors, and R-specific colours and interior trim.
