The Audi Q5 is a major player in the compact luxury crossover class, where it represents the influential German auto industry with a well-executed design that has changed surprisingly little since the car’s introduction in 2008.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The Q5’s changes this year are limited to a handful of new standard features for its base Komfort configuration.
Available Trims
Audi makes the Q5 in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trim levels. In all three, base power is from a 2.0L turbo engine with mild hybrid assist, which is coupled to a seven-speed transmission with AWD. Technik can be optioned with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that boasts the most performance of any Q5 variant.
Standard Features
The Q5 Komfort’s new additions are heated/power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, front/rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. Carried forward from last year are 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, passive keyless entry with hands-free tailgate, heated front seats, leather upholstery, three-zone A/C, and an auto-dimming interior mirror. There’s also a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10-speaker audio, and a 7.0-inch driver info display.
On the safety front, Komfort comes with front and rear collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, and exit warning.
Progressiv trim adds automatic high beams, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, garage door remote, navigation, digital gauges, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Technik models get upgraded headlights with washers, heated/cooled cupholders, heated rear seats, electric steering wheel adjustments, an upgraded stereo, top-view camera, adaptive cruise, traffic jam assist, road sign recognition, and active lane assist.
Key Options
A new vorsprung package adds 19-inch wheels, among other things, to Komfort trim, and navigation is available as a stand-alone extra.
Two S line packages add 20-inch wheels and other items to Progressiv and Technik models; you can also get ventilated front seats, lumbar adjustments, and sunshades in a comfort package.
Progressiv offers an advanced driver assist pack of adaptive cruise, lane assist, traffic jam assist, and road sign recognition.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates start at 10.2/8.2 L/100 km (city/highway) for Komfort’s base powertrain, and 10.6/8.2 L/100 km for the upgraded 2.0L non-plug-in setup available in Komfort and standard in Progressiv and Technik.
The Q5 PHEV is rated for 3.9 Le/100 km in electric mode, and 9.3/8.7 L/100 km in hybrid driving, along with 37 km of battery-powered range.
Competition
The Audi Q5 competes against the Volvo XC60, Lincoln Corsair, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery, Acura RDX, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Cadillac XT5, and Lexus NX.
