For 2008, the Acura RL is unchanged but for colour enhancements.
The RL uses a 3.5-litre V6 with five-speed automatic transmission and the company's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), which distributes torque between the front and rear wheels, and also between the left and right ones.
Features on the RL include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control with GPS-linked solar sensing, tire pressure monitoring system, LED taillights and brake lights, heated mirrors with integrated LED turn signals and reverse tilt-down, automatic high-intensity discharge headlamps with washers, fog lamps, power sunroof, heated and cooled leather seats with eight-way driver and four-way passenger power adjustment, bilingual voice-activated navigation system, back-up camera, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth hands-free telephone system, power rear sunshade, manual rear side sunshades, speed-sensing variable intermittent wipers and six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary jack.
The optional RL Elite package adds active front lighting, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system and genuine curly maple wood trim. The braking system uses a radar unit mounted behind the grille to monitor the distance and closing rate between the RL and the vehicle directly in front of it; if that data exceeds the system's threshold, it will tug at the driver's seatbelt and apply light braking. If that doesn't get the message across, it will retract the belts tightly and apply strong braking.
Beautifully styled and with a luscious interior, the RL is compromised by a tight rear seat that will limit the distance you can take rear-seat passengers in comfort. Its sophisticated all-wheel drive system will send torque to just one rear wheel for better cornering if necessary, and helps with handling and acceleration. The Elite package adds considerably to the price, but also brings the RL to a high standard of safety and technology.
