2004 Chevrolet Epica

Not all sedans are created equal...
The Epica is the first car I've ever owned and I think I would have been better off looking for a nice, older Honda Civic. After driving it for a little over a year, I've had some small issues and one major issue. I bought the car for $2750 with 97,000 KM in March 2014.
Pros:
- Power steering is actually pretty good. Taking corners was easier in my Epica than my Mom's 2007 Toyota Matrix
- It's nice and roomy.
- Interior is pretty fancy and looked great when I covered the seats with black leather seat covers.
- Heat and A/C work VERY well.
- There are some good features, such as fog lights and built-in security modules.
Cons:
- My valve cover started leaking oil, which eventually caused the spark plugs to blow. The Epica has a Daewoo engine which will not work with universal parts. The valve cover has been discontinued for this model, as well. It may be hard to find parts, which is something to consider! It cost $1000 to replace spark plugs and valve cover gaskets and seals.
- Acceleration is sluggish and it seems to kick back a little. This could be linked to issues with O2 sensors and fuel intake system.
- The electrical involving the airbag light is wack. I had the airbag reinstalled and the light turned off. Apparently it was just an electrical issue. The airbag light came back on about 10 months later, however I'm not going to bother with, as I'm assuming it's the electrical.
- I was expecting a little more passing power from a V6 engine, but it's not bad. The fastest I've gone while passing on a highway is about 160 kpm, and it handled very well, no shaking.
- It's not exactly a dream on gas. The fuel economy is definitely better while highway driving.

In conclusion, don't pay more than $3000 for an Epica! There is certainly a reason GM only manufactured this car for 2 years. It's not a reasonable vehicle if you're looking for something long term. I've put about $1500 into it since March 2014, and that's where I draw the line.

Still costing an arm and a leg
Bought in 2009 at repo depot. The car has been nothing but trouble. Parts are extremely costly. Every-time I go to the mechanic, I have to set aside 1000.00 for repairs. This car averages 2500.00 a year in repairs. I would not buy a Chevy ever again.

Smooth Ride
This car is great! It's fast and so comfortable. I have no complaints. Also it really depends on how well it has been maintained.

Don't even think about it
Bought used with low mileage. Within weeks the engine light started coming on, tech's kept fixing small things to try to fix it but nothing seemed to stop it. I found that whenever you excellerate on the highway, the engine light would soon come on.

Rear wheels didn't seem to sit right. The switch inside the dash that controls the temperature snaps (being thin plastic), breaks and bearings are no better and seem to be replaced more often than any vehicle I have owned. Please do more review on this car if you are ever looking at purchasing one. Screams lemon. You will regret your purchase.

Not at all good.
This car gave me many headaches. First headache started when the battery on my remote went out. Not only did the key not unlock manually I had to wait for CAA for an hour just to get into my own car just to realize that my key wouldn't even start the car manually without battery. Then once my battery when out of the vehicle i had to get the whole thing re programmed for $160 because it needed a "special" machine and on top of that buying a new battery. Now i have a problem with rotors and oi. The only thing I would say is good about the car is that it is comfortable other than that it needs endless work.

good overall
We bought ours brand new and has 150,000 kms now. it was the loaded model . We have had a few minor issues mechanically but they werent that expensive ( but what car hasnt), I always suggest taking the vehicle to there original dealers as they know and have the resources to diagnose and repair them. Some mechanics who arent working in a name brand car dealer dont like a particular brand and dont give you quality service as they dont know the vehicle well enough. Ive actually had more issues with our ford than with the epica, Overall its been a great car and served us well

horrible car
I bought a 2004 chevy epica a year ago for 1800. It looked great very comfortable and thought it was a good car. little did I no the car was only made for 2 years, if I would have known that I would never have bought it. I had nothing but problems with the car since I bought it. I only drove it for about 8 months had already put a bunch of money into it then the throttle body modual went on it and the wiring wiring harness my mechanic said it wasn't worth fixing and to get rid of the peice of junk, so I did. l would not recommend this car.

Decent vehicle some shortcomings
Seems to have sticky lifters, and the gas can be a little sluggish when accelerating other than that it is a solid little car.

Decent Family Sedan
This vehicle was brought into my family with 50,000 km on it. We have now eclipsed 150,00 km and have had a few issues. The biggest is a mystery brake issue that has forced us to disable the ABS brakes and Traction control.

Other than that, there have been some engine and electronic component repairs during our time with the vehicle.

The car is smooth to drive and the 2.5 L inline-6 is very quiet, but not too powerful.

There is a lot of space inside the vehicle and four adults can easily fit. the trunk is equally as big. All seats are comfortable for long distance trips.

Fuel mileage is average.
