Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the instrument cluster and center display to reset or not to work. As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer and certain warning lights and/or messages. In addition, the rearview camera image may not display when the transmission is shifted into the reverse gear. Safety Risk: Warnings and malfunction tell-tale information that don't display could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could also increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle software.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the 12 V battery charging cable could be damaged by contact with the steering shaft and cause a short circuit. If this happens, a warning message may display on the instrument panel advising of low 12 V battery charge, and the vehicle could suddenly lose power to the wheels. Note: This recall only affects rear-wheel drive models. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create the risk of fire. A sudden loss of power to the wheels may increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the 12 V battery charging cable. It will be repaired or replaced, as necessary. Volkswagen recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall work has been completed.
