For 2007, the full-size Toyota Tundra is all-new, with two V8 engines, three body styles and a choice of 31 possible configurations. It’s also larger than the model it replaces, and when properly equipped can tow up to 10,800 lbs.

The Tundra is available in two-door Regular Cab, four-door Double Cab or four-door CrewMax Cab, in three bed lengths, and in two- or four-wheel drive. All models are considered half-ton.

The 4.7-litre V8 is carried over from 2006, and is joined by an all-new 5.7-litre V8, specifically designed for pickup truck applications with a long-stroke configuration. Both engines meet Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV II) emissions certification standards. U.S. buyers also get a 4.0-litre V6 not available in Canada. The 4.7-litre comes with a five-speed automatic, the 5.7-litre with a six-speed automatic. Trim levels are the Deluxe, SR5 and Limited.

All models come with air conditioning, tow package, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack, engine immobilizer, locking glove box, high solar energy-absorbing window glass, stake pockets, cargo tie-downs, bed rail caps, and easy-lift, removable locking tailgate.

Additional standard or optional features include cruise control, premium cloth or leather seats, illuminated entry, power locks with keyless entry, tilt and telescopic wheel, premium six-CD stereo, front tow hooks, power windows, heated mirrors, fog lamps, digital compass, temperature gauge, premium wheels, garage door opener, DVD-based navigation system and backup camera.

The new Tundra is finally poised to take a serious run at the truck market: it’s strong (although its ride is very harsh), aggressively styled, its high-quality interior has all the expected amenities, and it features such niceties as a bed rail cargo system and a dampered tailgate that doesn’t bang when it’s dropped. The Double Cab features front-hinged doors, instead of the more awkward rear-hinged ones popular on some models, while the CrewMax is huge and aimed at the Dodge Mega-Cab. There are still no heavy-duty models, but with Tundra finally sized comparably to its domestic half-ton rivals, expect to see many more copies of this American-designed and American-built truck on job sites, and on the street.

Issue: 
This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. 

On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt.

Safety Risk: 
Engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire. 

Corrective Actions: 
Toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

Issue: 
On certain vehicles, a defect in the steering gear assembly could cause it to leak power steering fluid. If this happens, there could be a loss of power steering assist. 
Note: For 2007-2020 models, this recall only affects 41 vehicles that had a replacement steering gear installed in 2021. 

Safety Risk: 
A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. 

Corrective Actions: 
Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace power steering gear assembly.

Details:

On certain vehicles equipped with an optional tonneau cover where the front-most panel can be opened with the vehicle ignition key, the lock cylinder could bind. If the lock cylinder were to bind in the open position, the panel may not remain closed and the tonneau cover assembly could separate from the vehicle while it is being driven. This could potentially result in property damage and pose a hazard to other road users. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs when service parts become available. In the interim, the panel release mechanism will be disabled or the tonneau cover removed, at the owner's choice.

On certain vehicles, due to improperly applied grease, the driver's side power window master switch could stick or become inoperative. If attempts are made to lubricate the switch, the switch assembly could overheat and melt. A melting switch may produce smoke and potentially lead to a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the driver's power window master switch and apply a specialized grease that inhibits heat build-up, or replace the power window master switch circuit board, as necessary.

On certain vehicles, if the Toyota optional accessory "tray-type" floor mat is not secured by the retaining hooks, or if it is placed on top of an existing floor mat, the "tray-type" floor mat could move forward and interfere with the accelerator pedal.  This could result in a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.  Correction: The manufacturer will notify owners to remove the "tray-type" floor mat and provide instructions on how to obtain a reimbursement.
