History/Overview
The Sequoia is Toyota's largest vehicle, a full-size three-row SUV based on the brand's Tundra large pickup truck. Toyota introduced the Sequoia in the early 2000s and redesigned it into a second generation in 2008, which it has refreshed since then.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
New for 2020 is a TRD Pro trim that gets off-road ready suspension pieces, underbody protection, a tubular roof rack and a heritage grille design, among other features.
The Sequoia also expands its standard features list with passive keyless entry (previously an option), a larger 7.0-inch infotainment screen (it replaces a 6.1-inch display), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Toyota's new Connected Services package.
Available Trims
Toyota offers the Sequoia in SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Pro, Limited and Platinum trims. All Sequoia variants use a 5.7L V8 engine, a six-speed transmission and 4WD.
Standard Features
SR5 trim includes passive keyless entry, 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Connected Services by Toyota, centre differential lock, 18-inch wheels, sunroof, running boards, roof rail crossbars, LED headlights, fog lights and daytime running lights, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, radar cruise control, power-adjustable front seats with driver lumbar and thigh extension, power-folding third-row seat, heated front seats, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power tailgate window, eight-speaker stereo and three-zone automatic climate control.
TRD Sport trim builds on the SR5 with trim-specific exterior styling cues, 20-inch wheels, TRD shocks and sway bars and front and rear parking sensors.
The new TRD Pro package augments that with internal bypass shocks, heritage grille, underbody skid plate, power tailgate, navigation and TRD-branded shifter and floor mats.
Limited trim adds a rear spoiler, chrome mirrors and tailgate trim, power-folding side mirrors, power tailgate lock, driver's seat memory, rear side window sunshades, navigation, 12-speaker stereo, power steering column adjustments and a cargo area cover.
Finally, Platinum trim gets an adaptive suspension with rear auto levelling, ventilated front seats, perforated leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, woodgrain interior trim and a 14-speaker stereo with rear-seat entertainment system.
Fuel Economy
Toyota's fuel consumption estimates for the Sequoia are 18.4/13.8 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Sequoia competes for big-SUV buyers with a number of well-known models that includes the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition and Nissan Armada.
