For 2010, the Suzuki SX4 receives a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing, which increases horsepower from 143 to 150, and torque from 136 lb-ft to 140 lb-ft. The five-speed manual transmission is replaced with a six-speed unit, while the four-speed automatic supersedes to a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).

A new Aero trim on the hatchback, in front-wheel drive and with CVT only, adds a body package and fog lights, upgraded speaker system, 17-inch alloy wheels, and electronic stability control.

There are numerous other changes to the features list, including a new grille, instrument cluster, height-adjustable driver’s seat, upholstery and an auxiliary input jack, as well as new wheels, audio controls, chrome accents and the availability of electronic stability control on various trim lines.

The SX4 is available as a sedan or hatchback, all with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. Depending on the model, transmission choices are a six-speed manual or CVT. The sedan comes in front-wheel drive only, and comes in Base or Sport trim, both with six-speed manual or optional CVT.

The hatchback comes in Base trim, in front-wheel only, with six-speed or CVT. The JX comes in front-wheel drive with CVT only, or in all-wheel drive, with six-speed or CVT. The JLX is all-wheel only and CVT only; the Aero is front-wheel and CVT only.

Features on the Base sedan include 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, keyless entry, CD/MP3 stereo with four speakers, auxiliary input jack, driver’s auto-down window, power mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, information display, tilt steering wheel, floor mats, cloth seats, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding second-row seat, vanity mirrors, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, and engine block heater.

The Sport sedan adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, nine speakers with subwoofer, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, keyless start, aero body kit, electric trunk release, fog lamps, heated mirrors, rear spoiler, and heated seats.

Features on the Base hatchback include 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, keyless entry, CD/MP3 stereo with four speakers, auxiliary input jack, driver’s auto-down window, power mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, intermittent rear wiper, information display, tilt steering wheel, cargo cover, floor mats, front map lights, cloth seats, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats, vanity mirrors, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, and engine block heater.

The JX adds 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, heated mirrors, black roof rails, side skirts, and wheel arch extensions.

Details:

On certain vehicles, the detent pin within the shift lock structure may have been incorrectly positioned.  An incorrectly positioned detent pin in combination with high temperature conditions could allow the transmission shift selector to be moved out of the PARK position without depressing the brake pedal.  Depending which gear the driver selects, the vehicle could begin to move forward or backward immediately.  This movement could result in property damage, or cause the vehicle to strike a bystander, potentially resulting in injury.  Correction:  Dealers will replace the shift selector assembly with an improved part which incorporates an extended detent pin.

Details:

On certain vehicles, the Occupant Classification System may malfunction, causing the airbag warning lamp to illuminate, and could fail to disable the passenger airbag if a child were seated in the front passenger seating position. This could result in an unwarranted airbag deployment in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to a child seated in the front passenger seat. Note: In this situation, the "PASS AIR BAG OFF" light would fail to illuminate, regardless of if a child or adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Correction: Vehicles will receive special extended warranty coverage of 10 years or 200,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) from the date the vehicle was originally placed into service.  Under this special coverage program, vehicles which experience this condition will have the occupant detection mat replaced.

Details:

On certain vehicles, the tension adjuster pulley for the drive belt, which operates the alternator, water pump, air conditioner compressor and power steering pump, may contain an improperly manufactured internal spring that can break due to repeated stress.  Should the spring break, this would cause the drive belt tension to be maladjusted, allowing the belt to slip.  If the belt comes off, the loss of steering power assist would require the driver to exert increased effort to steer the vehicle.  This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.  Additionally, the loss of water pump function would cause the coolant temperature to rise, which can lead to engine overheating, while the loss of alternator charging ability would lead to battery discharge and eventual engine stall.  Correction: Dealers will replace the drive belt tension adjuster pulley.

On certain vehicles, the three (3) screws that secure the outside rearview mirrors to the base may come loose due to vibration and, in worst case, the mirror may separate from the vehicle.   Absence of rearview mirror(s) increases the risk of a crash.  Correction: Dealers will replace existing screws with Thread-Lock pre-coated screws.
