Is the Ram 1500 right for you?
- Buy it if ride comfort and cabin quality matter as much as capability. The coil-spring rear suspension rides more smoothly than leaf-spring rivals.
- Buy it if you want a V8: the 5.7L HEMI is back for 2026 in Crew Cab trucks.
- Buy a 2026 if you plan to keep the truck a long time; its 10-year powertrain warranty is not offered on 2027 models.
- Look elsewhere if you want a regular cab, a long list of cab and box choices, or the lowest starting price. The F-150 and Silverado start for less.
- Look elsewhere if you want a hybrid or EV now. The range-extended Ram 1500 REV has been delayed to 2027.

Every engine uses an eight-speed automatic. The Hurricane SO is the efficiency surprise of the range: more power than the HEMI, with better fuel consumption. Early in the 2027 model year, Ram is phasing out eTorque on the HEMI, and the non-eTorque HEMI has no automatic stop-start, so check the window sticker.

What's new on the 2027 Ram 1500
- Rumble Bee returns: a street-performance family with 5.7L HEMI, 6.4L 392 and supercharged SRT versions.
- TRX SRT returns: the 777 hp off-road flagship is back, from CA$144,995 plus destination.
- More standard features: a 360-degree camera on Limited, Longhorn and RHO; hands-free Active Drive Assist on RHO and TRX; up to 2 kW of bed power with the V6.
- New configurations: a Quad Cab widebody and a new 3.6L Warlock entry off-roader.
- Warranty change: the 2027 Ram 1500 returns to 3 years or 60,000 km basic and 5 years or 100,000 km powertrain coverage.
- Still to come: the range-extended Ram 1500 REV, with a gas generator and an estimated 1,110 km of total range, has been delayed to about April 2027. The fully electric version was cancelled.

The 2026 warranty is one of the longest powertrain warranties on any pickup, but it applies only to the original owner in most provinces, so it adds little to a used truck's value.
Buying a used Ram 1500 in Canada
Know the generations
The fourth-generation Ram (2009 to 2018) continued as the lower-priced Ram 1500 Classic through the 2024 model year. The current fifth generation arrived for 2019 with a lighter frame, eTorque mild-hybrid engines and a far more upscale cabin. The 3.0L EcoDiesel was offered on the fifth generation from 2020 to 2023, and the Hurricane inline-six replaced the HEMI in 2025 before the V8 returned for 2026.
Check the known issues
Ask a mechanic to check for lifter and camshaft wear and exhaust manifold bolt "tick" on 5.7L HEMI trucks, and for belt starter-generator or 48-volt battery faults on eTorque trucks. EcoDiesel trucks can suffer EGR cooler and fuel pump problems, and early Hurricane trucks received software updates.
Run the VIN for recalls
In July 2026, Ram recalled about 156,000 2019 to 2026 Ram 1500s in Canada for second-row seat belt anchors (Transport Canada 2026-371). A 2024 recall covered 130,722 trucks for stability control software, and a December 2025 recall covered 9,842 2025 and 2026 trucks whose 12-inch instrument cluster may not display. Check Transport Canada's recall database and confirm the work was done.
Confirm the warranty transfer
If a seller advertises the 10-year powertrain warranty, check whether it transfers in your province. In most provinces it ends when the original owner sells.
