New for 2020, the Porsche Taycan is the brand's first all-electric car, a high-performance four-door sedan.
Porsche offers the Taycan in 4S, Turbo and Turbo S trims. The electric Taycan is not actually turbocharged, but Porsche has carried that label over from its gas-powered models to denote those trims' uplevel performance.
Taycan 4S comes with 522 hp, sport mode with launch control, adaptive air suspension with 4D chassis control, 19-inch wheels with staggered tires, an electric parking brake, auto-deploying door handles, black side skirts, dynamic automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, passive keyless entry, and a power tailgate.
Interior features are LED lighting, auto-dimming rearview and heated side mirrors, two-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, eight-way front seats with driver memory, rear captain's chairs with a fold-out armrest, a 16.8-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.9-inch infotainment screen, a garage door opener, partial leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, navigation, Apple CarPlay, and a 10-speaker stereo.
Standard safety kit includes lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and front and rear park assist.
Taycan Turbo brings a 616-hp powertrain, 20-inch wheels, larger brakes with 10-piston front calipers, LED matrix headlights, 14-way front seats, heated rear seats, and a 14-speaker stereo.
Turbo S gets 750 hp, electric sport sound, 21-inch wheels, four-wheel steering, larger brakes, and 18-way sport seats.
A premium package bundles a panoramic sunroof, surround view camera system, lane change assist, ventilated front seats, an air ionizer and thermal- and noise-insulated glass.
Porsche offers dynamic chassis control, ceramic composite brakes, night view assist, Bose and Burmester stereos, and adaptive cruise control as stand-alone extras.
A performance pack brings four-wheel steering, dynamic chassis control, the sport chrono package, and electric sport sound.
As of this writing, Porsche hasn't published energy consumption figures for the Taycan.
Porsche's primary competition is the Tesla Model S, but performance car shoppers might also cross-shop the Taycan with more conventional sport sedans. Those include the BMW M5, Audi RS7, Maserati Quattroporte, Aston Martin's Rapide, and Porsche's own Panamera.
