History/Overview

Introduced in 2020, the Jeep Gladiator is a pickup truck that shares a lot of its DNA with the Wrangler compact SUV. At the time, it was Jeep’s first pickup model since the Cherokee-based Comanche of the 1980s and 1990s.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

For 2022, the Gladiator’s base Sport S trim gets a newly standard 7.0-inch touchscreen to replace last year’s 5.0-inch display. Overland, Rubicon and Mojave now get an 8.4-inch screen with navigation and a nine-speaker stereo as standard, along with passive keyless entry.

All trims get a new cabin filter Jeep says removes 95 per cent of air particulates.

Available Trims

Jeep makes the Gladiator in Sport S, Willys, Altitude, Overland, Rubicon, Mojave, and High Altitude trim levels. Depending on trim, power is from either a 3.6L gas V6 or a 3.0L turbodiesel V6. Most trims start with a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned with an eight-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is standard across the board.

Standard Features

Sport S trim comes with fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, heated side mirrors, driver’s seat lumbar, manual A/C, power locks/windows, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a 7.0-inch gauge display, eight-speaker audio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a power tailgate lock.

Willys adds an integrated garage remote,

Altitude gains automatic A/C, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, side steps, and passive keyless entry.

Overland brings a 115-volt power outlet, 18-inch wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an 8.4-inch infotainment screen, navigation and an Alpine stereo.

Rubicon’s additions include an upgraded 4WD system, locking front and rear differentials, performance shocks, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and premium cloth seats.

Mojave models boast a heavy-duty suspension, and bolstered front seats.

Finally, High Altitude trim adds LED headlights, LED fog lights, body-colour door handles, 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, and rear park assist.

Key Options

Gladiator options include LED headlights and fog lights for lower-end trims, as well as a safety group of blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, LED taillights, and rear park assist.

An advanced safety group brings forward collision mitigation, and automatic high beams.

Other options for trims below Overland include navigation in an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and an Alpine stereo.

Fuel Economy

Jeep’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.8/8.5 L/100 km (city/highway) with the diesel engine, while gas ratings start at 14.3/10.4 L/100 km with the manual transmission, and 13.7/10.7 L/100 km for 3.6L/automatic models.
