This van has been a good van for our family. I like the looks of the van and Ford has always treated me well. I was quite surprised with the fuel economy too, thinking that a van wouldn't do good on fuel, but it does pretty good. I gave lower marks for interior design because there's a compartment on the van that is inaccessible when using the cup holders.

1998 Ford Freestar

Not worth it!
Hate this van! I can not say one good thing about it. It was bought brand new and constantly had problems. It felt like every other week the van was going into the shop for some kind of new repair. The seats are not comfortable to sit on at all! They feel like rocks. The middle bench is so stiff and doesn’t move easily to allow people into the back seats. It doesn’t drive very well either, it just feels like a heavy, clunky van that is more hassle than it is worth. I have driven other vans and none were as bad as this one. I would not recommend this to anyone.

2005 Ford Freestar

Generally good but not exceptional
The Ford Freestar is the last of the Ford entries into the minivan market. In 2005 it came up against some solid offerings from Korean and Japanese companies. While lacking in some areas it does stack up well.

Pros would be solid build, comfortable front and mid captains chairs. The radio is simple by functional and offers good sound. Visibility is excellent both rear and side. While slightly noisy the engine performs well even under load. Reverse sensor and stability control are nice, nearly essential, options.

Cons include a 4 speed transmission, larger than average fuel tank, moderate mileage and road noise through the side doors. Lacking sliding side windows is noticeable. There is little positive to say about the 3rd folding bench both on a comfort and design standpoint. Hooks to secure it protrude into the interior cabin effecting load widths.

All around not a bad vehicle that has stood up well as it's aged. Still drives as firm and peppy as new.
