History/Overview

Ford added the subcompact crossover EcoSport to its lineup in 2018. It became the brand's smallest vehicle in 2019 after the discontinuation of the Fiesta and Focus cars in North America. For 2020, the SE version benefits from an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard equipment, replacing a 6.5-inch screen in last year's SE model. Additionally, the FordPass Connect system is standard across the entire lineup; it allows owners to use a smartphone to activate door locks and remotely start the engine, among other functions.

Ford offers the EcoSport in S, SE, SES, and Titanium versions that come standard with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine producing 166 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The SE gets a 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 123 horsepower with front-wheel drive that can be optionally equipped with the four-cylinder and all-wheel drive. Both engines have automatic stop/start technology to shut off the engine at red lights. A six-speed automatic transmission is the only one available.

Standard Features

The EcoSport S comes with manual air conditioning, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, two smart-charging USB ports, power windows, automatic on/off headlights, a six-speaker stereo in a 4.2-inch touchscreen, FordPass Connect, side mirrors with integrated blind spot mirrors, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The SE adds automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, passive keyless entry, a sunroof, satellite radio, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, a six-way adjustable driver's seat, heated side mirrors, distinctive LED lighting, sport suspension, fog lights, rear parking sensors, and windshield wiper deicer.

The SES offers an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, a seven-speaker stereo, navigation, 17-inch wheels, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers.

The Titanium version benefits from a sliding front centre armrest, chrome interior and exterior trim, a B&O stereo system, leather seats, and a perimeter alarm.

Key Options

An SE comfort package adds navigation, blind spot monitoring, ambient lighting, and a seven-speaker stereo system to the SE model. The SES black appearance package brings to this version a black roof, black hood decal, and rear spoiler.

Fuel Economy

Ford's fuel consumption estimates for the EcoSport are 8.6/8.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for the 1.0L FWD engine. The 2.0L/AWD combo is rated at 10.2/9.2 L/100 km.

Competition

The EcoSport takes on models like the Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai and Kicks, Toyota C-HR, Chevrolet Trax, Hyundai Kona and Venue, Mitsubishi RVR, and Subaru Crosstrek.
