2014 Chevrolet Malibu

Buyer's Guide

CHANGES FOR 2014:

- Emergency redesign of Chevrolet's bread-and-butter midsize sedan.

- New 2.5L four-cylinder engine with stop-start functionality.

- 2.4L four-cylinder with eAssist discontinued.

- Revised front end appearance.

- Roomier rear seat with 1.25 inches more knee room.

- Redesigned centre console.

- More torque from 2.0L turbo engine.

- Suspension enhancements derived from 2014 Impala.

- Available Siri Eyes Free Mode and new Text-to-Voice features.

- New available Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety features.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was received about as warmly as the 2012 Honda Civic, with vicious criticism and many fingers pointing at General Motors on a mediocre effort. Instead of waiting for a full model cycle before giving the Malibu a much needed update, the 2014 model receives a wide variety of improvements to increase fuel mileage, offer better comfort, create a more attractive front end design, crank up performance, and keep occupants safe. It still may not be as pretty as its competitors - such as the Ford Fusion or Honda Accord - but the under the skin upgrades give the Malibu the modernization it deserves.

The Malibu comes with a choice of two engines: a base 2.5L four-cylinder with stop-start and a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission on offer. Malibu is offered in LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LZ, and 2LZ trims (preliminary).

Detailed feature and pricing information will be available closer to launch. All specs are preliminary.

2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Family car
Rented this vehicle for 3 days.

It was spacious, smooth to drive, quiet and surprisingly fuel efficient considering it is a mid-size sedan.

It's what I would consider a good looking family car.

1998 Chevrolet Malibu

good over-all family sedan with some issues
- infamous 3100 V6 engine intake manifold gasket leaks
- brake rotors warp easily
- wheel bearing issues/abs sensor issues
- decent power with the V6 engine
- once you fix the leaking intake manifold gasket, the engine is reliable
- good styling inside and outside
- ergonomic interior with decent space and good comfort
- won Motor Trend's 1997 Car of the Year award
- most of the minor issues were fixed in model year 2000 (chalk it up to teething problems for a new model)

Hate this car nothing but problems!! Door locks, key fobs, cheap hubcaps that break in a instant. Noisy, underpowered, terrible in rain and snow, valves like to ratlle when a bit cold out.
Will not be buying a chev again!!
