For 2012, the Chevrolet Camaro adds a new, high-performance ZL1 coupe model, with supercharged 6.2-litre engine. The base 3.6-litre V6 is upgraded to a new “LFX” V6 with more horsepower and lighter weight than the 3.6-litre V6 it replaces. All models receive a revised instrument panel with new graphics and trim, along with a new steering wheel and improved passenger seat.

The Camaro is available as a coupe or convertible. A 3.6-litre V6 is used in the LS, 1LT and 2LT trim lines, with a six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic. Two 6.2-litre V8 engines are available in the Camaro SS, a 400-horsepower version (L99) with a six-speed automatic, or 426-horsepower version (LS3) with six-speed manual transmission. The L99 engine includes Active Fuel Management, which shuts off half the cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy. The ZL1 uses a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with six-speed manual transmission.

The coupe comes in LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS trim, while the convertible comes in 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS.

Features on the LS include 18-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, XM satellite radio, exterior temperature display, cruise control, rear spoiler, power locks with keyless entry, power-reclining sport bucket seats, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, tire pressure monitoring system, power windows with express up/down, variable intermittent wipers, and OnStar.

The 1LT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, and fog lamps. The convertible adds a power cloth roof.

The 2LT adds 19-inch alloy wheels, Boston Acoustics premium stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, head-up display, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, USB port, cargo net, multifunction display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming, heated leather seats, and garage door opener. The convertible adds a folding one-piece tonneau cover.

Features on the 1SS include 20-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, XM satellite radio, exterior temperature display, cruise control, power locks with keyless entry, power-reclining sport bucket seats, tilt and telescopic wheel, tire pressure monitoring system, power windows with express up/down, intermittent wipers, OnStar, four-piston Brembo brakes, and SS-specific instrumentation, front and rear fascias and grille.

The 2SS adds Boston Acoustics premium stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, wheel-mounted audio controls, USB port, head-up display, cargo net, multifunction gauge, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming, heated leather seats, and garage door opener.

The ZL1 adds 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, unique front fascia and sills, hood with carbon fibre insert, electric power steering, dual-mode exhaust system, heavy-duty limited-slip differential, Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, vertical fog lamps, xenon headlamps, six-way power sport seats with microfibre inserts, unique black interior, alloy pedals and head-up display with unique performance readouts.
