2014 Acura MDX

Buyer's Guide

CHANGES FOR 2014:

- Redesigned model.

Now entering its third generation, Acura's athletic 7-passenger crossover receives more cohesive sheetmetal up front and a new Earth Dreams 3.5L V6 sporting a less-powerful 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque versus the outgoing model. Getting that power to the ground is no issue thanks to Acura's signature SH-AWD and due to cylinder deactivation and a smaller engine, fuel economy is improved to 11.2 city and 7.7 highway (L/100km). The MDX may not be spectacularly exciting, but in the luxury seven-passenger segment, you can't get much better bang for your buck. It even costs less than the outgoing model by over three grand.

Standard features include Integrated Dynamic System, hill start assist, all-wheel drive, airbags (front, Smartvent side, side curtain, driver's knee), security system, tire pressure monitoring system, trailer stability assist, 18-inch alloy wheels, front disc/rear drum-in-disc brakes with ABS, power heated side mirrors with reverse tilt-down, integrated turn indicators and expanded view driver's mirror, chrome door handles, headlight washers, heated windshield, LED headlights and taillights, power moonroof with tilt and auto-open/close, rearview camera, Bluetooth phone connectivity, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with mounted audio/phone/MID/cruise controls, HomeLink, maintenance minder, on-demand multi-use display, power tailgate, power windows with driver and front passenger auto-up/down, keyless entry, push button start, driver seat/mirror/steering column memory, rear console 115-volt power outlet, tri-zone automatic climate control, eight-speaker 432-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio with subwoofer and satellite radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, auxiliary input jack, USB port, SMS test message and email function, 50/50 split flat-folding 3rd row bench, Smart Slide 2nd row seat with One Touch Walk-In, 10-way power driver seat, 8-way power front passenger seat, and heated front seats and steering wheel.

Navigation Package adds 19-inch alloy wheels, Acura Navigation System with 8-inch display, 10-speaker 501-watt premium audio system, AcuraLink connectivity system, blind spot information system, forward collision warning system, hard disk drive media storage, lane departure warning system, perimeter/approach puddle lights, and rain sensing windshield wipers.

Technology Package adds auto-dimming power folding mirrors, Acura DVD entertainment system with 9-inch display, 11-speaker 529-wayy premium audio system with subwoofer, auto-levelling front headlights, heated 2nd row seats, keyless entry for rear doors, perforated premium Milano leather-trimmed interior, and rear side sunshades.

Elite Package adds Acura DVD Ultrawide rear entertainment system with 16.2-inch display and HDMI input, 12-speaker 546-watt premium audio system with subwoofer, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking system, front and rear parking sensors, genuine olive ash trim, lane keeping assist system, 10-way power adjustable passenger seat, remote engine starter, roof rails, surround view camera system, and cooled front seats.

2010 Acura MDX

Great car if a little overpriced
This is a great family vehicle. In my neighborhood there are about a million of them, so you can tell the word of mouth has been excellent for some time, This vehicle is a slam dunk family car, with room for 8. The back rows are tighter than ideal but its a balance between this and driving something that would be huge. I think its a little pricey but the trade-in value is excellent so it all evens out. If you can afford it and dont want to worry than go for it.

Comfort and style
We bought our MDX brand new and 5 years later, it still feels like a new car. The comfort and reliability of this car is second to none -- the AWD handled brilliantly in rather unexpected 4x4 conditions. Fuel economy on the 6L engine is not great, but what can we expect for a car of this size. Put your foot down and it responds as it should and handles really well. Perfect size for our family of 4 for camping, roadtrips and just kicking around town. Love this car!

2002 Acura MDX

A Fun and Reliable ride
I have had this SUV since 2006, other than doing the regular maintenance (Oil changes, brakes etc), I have not had to do any major repairs on the car. The car is used everyday for work, and on the weekends and kid mover. The only downside is it take premium gas, so at current gas prices, it cost's more than a $100 to fill the tank. Other than that, it is a fantastic car.
