History/Overview
The Ford F-250 is the entry point to the brand’s Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks, which boast bigger towing and payload capacities and beefier powertrains than the F-150.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
Changes for the 2022 Ford F-250 centre around a new 12.0-inch infotainment screen that is standard in Lariat trim and higher. Lariat also now offers a sport appearance package that replaces some chrome trim with body-colour parts.
Available Trims
Ford offers the F-250 in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims. Engine choices (depending on trim) include 6.2L and 7.3L gasoline V8s, and a 6.7L turbodiesel; all come matched to a six-speed automatic transmission and a choice of 2WD or 4WD.
Standard Features
Every F-250 comes with a locking tailgate, 17-inch steel wheels, and the 6.2L gas V8.
XLT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, blind spot monitor, automatic high beams, forward collision avoidance, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
Lariat adds LED box lighting, power-folding side mirrors, a power sliding rear window, leather upholstery, power-adjustable/heated/ventilated front seats, a 7.3L V8 engine, dual-zone A/C, and Sync 4 with navigation and the new 12.0-inch touchscreen.
King Ranch brings LED headlights and fog lights, 20-inch wheels, trailer backup guidance, 360-degree cameras, lane departure warning, wireless phone charging, heated steering wheel, lane keeping alert, rain-sensing wipers, and heated rear seats.
Platinum adds power running boards, adaptive cruise control, tailgate assist step, and massaging seats.
Finally, Limited models gain a suede headliner, upfitter switches, and a blue/slate interior colourway.
Key Options
Most F-250 trims can be optioned with a gooseneck towing package. An FX4 off-road package brings hill descent control, off-road shocks, skid plates, and decals, and a Tremor off-road package goes further, with locking/limited-slip differentials, and a variety of other tough touches.
Starting with XLT, you can add a trailer tow camera backup assist system.
A King Ranch ultimate package adds adaptive cruise, dual-pane sunroof, multi-contour front seats, and a tailgate assist step.
Fuel Economy
Natural Resources Canada classifies the F-250 as a commercial vehicle and does not require Ford to publish fuel consumption estimates for it.
Competition
With the F-250, Ford competes with the Ram 2500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and GMC Sierra 2500.
