2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Price Holds at $21,390

Toyota today announced pricing for the 2022 Corolla hatchback, whose base model carries over its $21,390 starting MSRP from last year.

In fact, multiple trims hold the line on price, and a couple are less expensive: the SE model is now $50 less, and the XSE 6MT (manual transmission) grade’s price goes down $380. The only version that gets a notable price increase is the XSE CVT, which is $610 more.

Not much changes functionally for the Corolla Hatchback, save for taillights that come on any time the car is moving. That’s in response to a forthcoming government mandate that, starting in September, all new cars sold in Canada must have automatic taillights. The recently announced 2022 Corolla sedan has the same feature.

The only other new feature is an available eight-speaker JBL stereo, which is now part of the XSE package.

Otherwise, the Corolla Hatchback is fundamentally unchanged. Most trims come standard with a six-speed manual gearbox called iMT, which can perform re-matched downshifts for smoother driving. The optional transmission remains a continuously variable automatic (CVT) with a launch gear that Toyota says provides better acceleration from a stop.

Toyota offers the 2022 Corolla Hatchback in S, SE, SE Upgrade, Nightshade Edition, and XSE trim levels. The Corolla Hatchback’s sole engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder with 169 hp/151 lb-ft of torque, and it comes mated to the six-speed iMT transmission in all but the Nightshade Edition and its standard CVT.

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is on sale now across Canada.
