The 2022 Toyota Corolla arrives with a pair of new colours, the return of the Apex edition, and a new safety feature you'll start to see on every model in the very near future. It offers two four-cylinder engines and a hybrid, for a total of 15 different models – not including the Hatchback, which is not part of this announcement. The 2022 Toyota Corolla will start from $19,450, just $100 more than last year.
That new safety feature ensures that the rear lights are on whenever the Corolla is in motion. It's a response to the growing number of drivers who, confused by the glow of their dashboard lights, inadvertently use only their daytime running lights in the nighttime, making them nearly invisible to vehicles approaching from the rear. Starting from September of this year, all new vehicles are mandated to have some form of automatic taillights.
Toyota offers the Corolla in L and S series, with the latter aimed at drivers looking for more sportiness. The 2022 Corolla L series includes L, LE, LE Upgrade, and XLE; the S series comprises SE, SE Upgrade, and XSE; while the Hybrid comes in Hybrid and Hybrid Premium.
L series models offer a 139-hp 1.8L four-cylinder engine. S series models come with different wheels and a sport grille, as well as a 169-hp 2.0L four. The Corolla Hybrid is offered in sedan form only and delivers 121 hp with an estimated 4.5 L/100 km combined fuel economy.
SE models will also be offered once again with the limited-edition Apex Edition package. That includes a sport exhaust and suspension along with special wheels and body kit. The SE Upgrade will be offered in Nightshade trim with black finishes like the wheels, mirrors, and door handles.
