Canada’s 10 Best Cafes for Car and Motorcycle Fans

Our top spots for gearheads to hang out and grab some high-octane snacks.

Update, September 18, 2026: Since first publishing this story, the author discovered a new cafe, the Motor Pool Cafe in Etobicoke, Ont., that he became so enamoured of, he simply had to add it to the list. The story has been updated to include a section on this latest caffeination station.

Drivers have been congregating at cafés almost as long as there have been cars and motorcycles to get them there. And why not? Those of us with a passion for petrol-powered performance tend to like showing off, or at least hanging around those with similar interests. For more than a century now, some enterprising purveyors of food and drink have sought to serve those needs and embrace the gearhead culture at their establishments.

The rise of the drive-in restaurant can be traced back to Kirby’s Pig Stand, which opened in Dallas, Tex., in 1921, with the format exploding in popularity in the 1950s and ‘60s, becoming a treasured part of American nostalgia, captured on screen in American Graffiti and Happy Days. Meanwhile, abroad, London’s Ace Café became popular amongst teenage motorcyclists who appreciated the venue’s rock’n’roll juke boxes and 24-hour service, eventually becoming the legendary landmark amongst the biker and automotive crowds it is today.

The love of cars and motorcycles runs deep in Canada, too, and we’re fortunate as drivers, riders, and fans of motorized things to grab some food or drink and find friendly folks who love having days filled with caffeine and gasoline.

Here are our top spots for gearheads to hang out and grab some high-octane snacks, travelling from the West Coast to the East.

Café 356, Parksville, B.C.

With moderate weather year-round and some great driving roads, Vancouver Island is a dream spot to be a car devotee, and enthusiasts out for a drive owe it to themselves to stop in at Café 356, situated in a spacious spot next to the beautiful Parksville harbour. Inside, the walls are decorated chock-a-block with racing and automotive-themed paraphernalia, but the highlight during our visit was a pair of air-cooled 911s sharing the space amidst the tables, chairs, and sofas. The 356 in the name refers to Porsche’s classic 911 predecessor, and the love of Stuttgart’s finest is definitely prominent here.

Isetta Café Bistro, West Vancouver, B.C.

Even folks who couldn’t care less about motorized things are sure to love Isetta Café. Situated along the winding Marine Drive, nestled between the coast and the mountains, the lush, green conifers frame the location, which was once an old service station, but you’d never know it. Today, the building is an architectural marvel, embracing the wood, steel, and glass that’s so prevalent in western design, creating a contemporary, comfortable and drop-dead cool space to grab an artful cappuccino or plate of eggs benny. The automotive theme is subtle here, with one side of the building housing the owner’s collection of strange cars, including, of course, the namesake Isetta, the tiny classic BMW powered by a motorcycle engine.

The Real BenzX Lounge, Burnaby, B.C.

British Columbia’s car café culture seems to be inspired by German marques. The Real BenzX Lounge (briefly, previously known as Benzo Café) has undergone a slight restyle under new ownership, giving the café more neon inside and seemingly targeting a younger crowd. The Mercedes-Benz-inspired décor lives on, however, with patrons being able to enjoy their caffeine or baked goods amidst booths, tables, and countertops fitted between the front or back end of classic ‘70s and ‘80s Mercedes models.

N90s Grid, Winnipeg, Man.

With the closure of Edmonton’s Sylv’s Retro Diner and Calgary’s Kane’s Harley Diner, central Canada is largely without a great gearhead café. The exception is Winnipeg’s cool N90s where a non-descript industrial building houses a ‘90s-themed café that celebrates the JDM culture, appropriately boasting top-quality matcha. The location is also a great spot to get collectible diecast cars, merchandise under the A’PEXi and HKS brands, and to see if you can get yourself on the leaderboard on their elaborate driving simulators with either triple-monitor or virtual reality setups.

The Motor Pool Café, Etobicoke, ON

Motor Pool Cafe - NF - JW - 260915 - 11

Situated in Etobicoke at the western edge of Toronto, the Motor Pool Café is the newest addition to serve those who love machines and coffee. Unlike a lot of urban hang-outs, The Motor Pool actually has a decent space out front for visitors to park, admire, and show-off their own rides, with some limited outdoor seating available, too. But it’s inside where the cool vibe of The Motor Pool is best displayed with historic car and motorcycle ads hung on the walls next to other decorations crafted out of old car parts (like the Bronco light fixture or Jeep wheel clock). There are comfy leather couches, work tables, and even a meeting space with a board room table available. The coolest part is the 3,000 square-foot open space that’s a blank slate for your next photo shoot or special event.

Three Horses Café Speed Shop, Toronto, Ont.

Just northwest of Toronto’s downtown financial district, fans of coffee, vintage clothes, motorcycles, and hot rods will find refuge at the Three Horses Café Speed Shop. There, visitors can sip a great cup of Joe (made with Backroads Coffee beans, no less), while browsing everything from vintage clothing, to motorcycle helmets, and premium selvedge denim, or just pick up a jug of Motul if your ride is down a quart. When the weather cooperates, the whole front of the place opens up with roll-up garage-style doors, helping to bring the cool vibes out into the bustling neighbourhood.

Back Alley Moto Café, Stouffville, Ont.

As any Southern Ontario motorcyclist will attest, there’s a serious draw to escape the bustle of the city and head north, often into Ontario’s highlands region with its winding roads. On the way out of town, riders would do well to stop by Back Alley Moto Café in Stouffville where the owner brews and sells his own special blend of beans (with moto-themed names, naturally). The small venue’s best decoration is a classic red Triumph, but you can also find the owner’s slammed, hot rod ’68 Suburban towing a vintage trailer set up to dispense coffee and snacks at other events around the province. The shop has proudly hosted the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride – a global event that has raised more than $60 million toward men’s health charities.

Carrera Café, Porsche Experience Centre, Pickering, Ont.

Tuesdays through Saturdays, Porsche fans can stop by the Carrera Café inside the newly-opened Porsche Experience Centre in Pickering, just east of Toronto. Like the rest of the Centre, the café features a sleek, bright and contemporary décor, and even if the sandwiches and beverages weren’t top shelf (which they are), fans of the brand would simply want to stop by to see some of the latest and greatest machines up close, and racing around the on-site circuit.

Sofia Vintage Motor Café, Ottawa, Ont.

Dr. Hassan Moghadam acquired a collection of cars the likes of which most enthusiasts can barely fathom, but he found that they were all tucked away in safe keeping. Inspired by Jerry Seinfeld’s show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, he decided to bring some of his prized collection to a café created in an old Ottawa bank building. The result is a dazzling venue decorated beautifully with classy furniture and a coffee bar highlighted by a towering, brass espresso machine. The feature décor resides behind protective glass, and understandably so considering the value of the four machines on display: a race-ready Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Miura, and a one-owner, all-original Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing that has been used to ferry around VIPs including Jacqueline Kennedy and Lewis Hamilton. The coffee and baked goods are every bit worthy of the stunning venue and the sensational vehicular art.

Idle Garage and Coffee, Montreal, Que.

Candian Car Cafes - Idle Garage and Coffee

The riding community in Montreal have the coolest place to hang out: Idle Garage and Coffee. Imagine a comfortable place that’s part motorcycle service shop, part storage facility, and a place where you can enjoy a great brew and sandwich. That’s Idle Garage. Best of all, to really reinforce the sense of community amongst riders, Idle lets visitors wrench on their own rides within the shop and under the watchful eye of a certified mechanic who is there to lend a hand if need be. Riders everywhere should hope similar shops like this open up in other markets across the country.

Carrera’s Resto, Laval, Que.

Canadian Car Cafes - Carrera-s Resto - IG

Car culture hits a little different in Quebec – just ask anyone who’s been in the Montreal area anywhere near Grand Prix weekend. Quebecers seem to celebrate their machines more than most, and Carrera’s Resto in Laval is further proof of that. Beyond grabbing a great cup of caffeine, visitors love the burgers and pizza served at Carrera’s with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Even if the food wasn’t as good as it is, the slick marble fixtures, extensive wall art featuring Porsches, and an actual 911 Carrera parked in the dining space would surely help car enthusiasts love this place.

Carrera Café, Quebec City, Que.

There definitely seems to be a trend with Porsches and cafes in Canada. Although this prestigious little restaurant bears the Carrera brand, the café (like the Porsches) is actually named after the gruelling Carrera Panamericana race of the 1950s. A blend of stylish modern décor is very tastefully accented by historic racing images. Reviews praise the thoughtful service here, plus the high-quality coffee beverages, cocktails, charcuterie, and fancy salads.

Diggers Café, Truro, N.S.

Canadian Car Cafes - Diggers Cafe - IG

Like central Canada, the Maritimes have an unfortunate lack of venues where gearheads can go for some eats, beverages, and camaraderie. There is one very unique bright spot, however. Situated in a historic brick building in downtown Truro is a giant sandbox with a café around it. Diggers café is guaranteed to be fun for visitors of all ages. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate and a muffin, then sit down at the bar that surrounds a giant sand pit and pilot a radio-controlled piece of heavy equipment. For those who’ve always wanted to get behind the controls of a giant excavator, bulldozer, or dump truck, this is a stress-melting way to pass some time. The owner is a big supporter of other local businesses, bringing in treats from a local bakery and ice cream from a nearby creamery. And for those wanting the sandbox all to themselves, they can rent a second sand pit that fills much of the café’s lower level.

Unlike chain-based cafes across the country, these individual spots tend to put greater emphasis on quality brews and creating a personal, friendly atmosphere. Go on, indulge your passion for both cars and caffeine.
